My dad has been on a guitar collecting trip ever since I went to college. A retired friend of his was trying to sell off his collection of 130+ rare and not so rare "bizzarre" japanese and american guitars from the 1960's that he had acquired from 15 years of collecting throughout the midwest. So my dad says ok and we drive the explorer from kansas city to cedar rapids Iowa, rent a 15 foot uhaul truck and go over to this guys house and start loading the truck up. He would bring the guitars out one by one and tell us the story of how he got it and the history of it etc. For me it was like christmas. I still can't believe that we now have a collection approaching 200 guitars and the bulk of them are sitting in my living room at home. He's planning on selling quite a few of them and keeping the best ones. We paid $20,000 for the whole collection in the form of 4 cashiers checks for $4,999.99 each. We payed an average price of about $160 for each guitar and there are at least 20 in the lot worth anywhere from $800-$2000 and dozens more worth at least $300-$500. I can easily say that it was the most fun trip to Iowa I have ever taken.
You can see pictures of some of them at vintaxe.com but there are MANY more than are listed on the website.
