i asked this question awhile ago to buger when he posted the torque curve. as you can see in the official mazda graph below which shows both the high power and the low power for JDM the T for the high power climbs higher after 5500 rpm. so why do they always the T at 5500 why not quote it at 6000 where it appears to be more?

I think they quoted the 5500 RPM number because that is where it starts to level off.

A lot of cars like to say something like "Peak torque: 250 ft-lb @ 3000 - 5000 RPM"

I think Mazda is doing something similar here. I think quoting the lower RPM number also gives the impression that the car has more grunt than it actually does. 216 at 5500RPM sounds better than 218 at 6100RPM to some people.

Either way we already have a rough idea of the "feel" and acceleration numbers.. You will have to keep the revs in the 5K rpm and beyond range for some meaningful acceleration..
