The first pic was before I installed the Tein S Tech. All the other pics are after. Huge difference in appearance in my opinion.

No offense but those tires look like they belong on a truck.

When I bought it I was working in chicago (like near McCormick place) and was in stop and go traffic everyday for 3 hrs a day.

I work downtown...never once considered getting the auto.
I drove one as a loaner and I could not believe the lack of EVERYTHING!!!
not to mention only 4 gears? WTF?
Why did you do so many aftermarket upgrades?

JeupRX-8
06-21-2004, 11:28 PM
He has done aftermarket upgrades, becuase that is what people do to their cars! I have also put "upgrades" on my auto 8 also. It does make a differance, and it shaved off .4 seconds on my G-tech 0-60 time.
It is not the fastest car, but on the track I kept right up with my buddies Z, except on the straights. I am debating getting a manual, but I am really waiting for the 6-speed automatic. I eat, talk on phone, etc while driving; and don't have time to switch gears.
Very nice wheels.

Those are great wheels (the same wheel I am getting :)) and they are one of the lightest available for a decent dollar. Roughly $450 and only 16 lbs.

Nice shoes. I've had several sets of BFG z-rated tires over the years and they're hard to beat for traction and price. Never had a set get near 20,000 miles but who cares.

Very, very nice -- nothing says "all business" like SSR Comps. I assume you went through Tire Rack for the tires/wheels.

Please post specs: width, offset, tire size (stock? or did you go 245?) How did they work the issue of the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS)?

The debate over AT vs Manual has been done over and over, if you want to further bash the AT owners, go to those threads. Personally I own an AT also, simply because I'm too lazy to go with Manual. It's all a matter of preference... Everything? I guess, since we did all save about $800-1000 to add to mods.

What kind of question is that? He wanted to change some things, let him... who cares.

It has nothing to do with his tire choice, so drop it.

Are the SSR Competitions the same as the SSR Type C on the speedstar.co.jp website? I really like them in white, but all the Competitions I've seen are metal colored. The type C come in white. Any guesses?

The specs are 18x8.5 with a +45 offset. The shoes are 245/40zr/18's.

I didn't put the SSR & Comp stickers on cause I didn't wanna advertise the hell out of them...the center caps are enough.

I went through a local dealer by my house. The TPMS sensors I left in my OEM wheels.

I thought the same thing....especially before I installed the springs. I think it's the lip? But they are 40 series???

Hey man, those rims are tight. Definitely a great value for what you get. One question: How are you getting away with not having your license plate on the front? Gotten any flack? I'm in eastern Iowa, originaly from IL, and I know it's required in both states.

Looks great!

Personally I like the look of the tires, it gives the car a very aggresive look.

I have not been pestered by any cops thus far for no front plate. But incase I do I have the mounting bracket in the trunk and can tell the po-po I have an appt to have it installed...:)

That is actaully not a bad idea. My plate is coming off when I get home from work.... Oh yeah, work...THAT's why I'm in this building.

looks great! :D
but tell me, have you noticed any thing in acceleration or handling wise? I understand that they're close to 7 lbs lighter than stock (stock 22lbs, SSR comp. 15.4lbs?)?
and guys.... the guy's posting about his wheels, not his tranmission choice :p

I have noticed the car feels quicker, both from a stand still and when accelerating from say 2-3 gear ect. Handling is hard to tell from just the wheels alone....I've replaced the sways and the springs so the car already drives flat through the turns and hugs the ground. But the tires are extremely sticky though..:)

I love those wheels. I need to get me a set of those in 17" for track use.

The SSR Type-C is one bitchin' wheel. I'm debating whether to get it in 17 or 18 inch. Wouldn't the smaller wheel help with low-speed acceleration, but limit the top speed?

rotarenvy

I like the I was thinking of them myself :)

with the 40 series he has lowered the gearing. to use a 17" you would have to have a 50 series tyre to remain close to the same diameter of the 18's and then you get flex in the side walls. (this is assuming you want your speedometer and odometer to be some what acurate)

Nice color matching with the body and the rim. Also matching the shift knob color too. The SSR type C was in my buying list because it is light and inexpensive. Its manufacturing method is taking advantage of forging and casting. Unfortunately, they don't have silver color for my size in our market, just gold or white.
I have Momo shift knob too. Mine is Combat Blue. Did you cut the shift bar?
Mine is 4AT and did, and will do, mod a lot. Worth doing suspension mod, coz it improve the manouver very much. I am enjoying my 8, who cares! :p I am not a circuit racer. F1 cars these days have semi automatic with paddle shift like 8. Only pitty that it is just 4 speed. :(

i've just ordered mine, but in 18's. I was also debating in getting it in 17's but can't I just put 40 series on the 18's and still get the same effect?

Very nice, I like them... Were you able to use the TPMS? What size and offsets? What size tires? Need details...

BoxerGT2.5
08-10-2004, 09:40 PM
I am not using the TPMS. The size is 18x8.5 with a +48mm offset. The tires are BFGoodrich G-Force KDW's.

would 265/35 work for the 8.5?

I cut the shift bar when I installed my momo shift

it was so tall before I cut it

Nice. I have a 17"x8.5" set for an Audi Avant. IIRC, Audi uses a 5x112mm bolt pattern with, in the case of these 17's @ 35mm offset.

Anyone know what the Mazda Rx8 wheel bolt pattern is?
Does one have to change the wheel offset if going from the stock 8" wide to a wider 8.5" wheel?

Thanks. It would be very nice if I got lucky and the Audi sSR comps would fit the Rx8. I just know this has to be too good to be true .....

monzter
08-13-2004, 02:37 PM
5x114.3mm bolt pattern on the 8 if I'm not mistaken.
