silvercloud 06-16-2004, 09:38 PM
silvercloud 06-16-2004, 09:41 PM Looks OK.
I like the way the circle of the headlights are indented into the bumper. And I like the turn signals on the side mirrors.
Any interior pics?
What kind of tires does it have?
9-K Rever 06-16-2004, 09:42 PM Set me back 29k. But, that's with every option includeing subwoofer and amp.
I have one interior pic, will have more later. Its ony 2 days old. I will debage the car by the weekend. The only badge on there will be there LEGACY badge on the back.

Potenza RE92s..peices of crap. I have RE750s on order.
Also a STI short shifter..the shifter needs to go.
Looks great! Now time for some wheels, a little less wheel gap, an FP Green, FMIC, Utec, TBE, and... It's a good thing I don't have to pay for all that or I'd be broke, now get to work! :p
BY the way, what turbo did you guys end up with TD-04 or VF39, I've been looking everywhere and still can't find an answer.
Tirminyl 06-17-2004, 01:53 AM Wow. That looks sooo good. Please post more pics me likey!

Yes, wheel gap huge on this car. But, I am not dieing to buy rims for this thing yet. I will just stick with the 17inchers for now. But, we have no idea what turbo it is either. They haven't disclosed that information.
Also, the car seems not to have a break in period. There is no break in period in the owners manual, and the dealer stated there was no break in. But, it won't see over 4kRPM untill after the first oil change at 700 miles.
More pictures will come soon... its too rainy for good pics.

Hanzo 06-17-2004, 08:00 AM The interior is nice, I rode in it. Like it a lot, definitely a more grown up car. Engine sounds very similar to STI. I am pretty sure Subaru is not going to put the VF39 on the legacy, should be a TD-04.

Whats the diffrence in those two turbos? If the VF39 is the STI turbo..that is not the turbo in the car. All I know is it doesn't share the same turbo with any other car in the line up.
I am in agreement with Hanzo. Its deffinatly targetted for a more mature market. Interior is top notch.

MikeW 06-17-2004, 01:38 PM Car looks good.
How about 215/50 17 to fill out the wheel wells.
that second shot makes it look like a Ford Taurus.
Gigolo Jason 06-17-2004, 01:53 PM Nice Taurus, if thats your thing and all.
Personally I think it looks like a$$ with an attached hood scoup.

It actually does, I think it's just the angle, they don't look anything like the Taurus in person but the rear half of the car in that shot certainly makes it look like one.

You won't clear up that gap without a drop from some springs, trying to do it with tires is the wrong way to go.
9-K Rever 06-17-2004, 02:36 PM Or I coud just go with 18's and call it a day..but, I would rather spend the wheel money on something diffrent. Like the suspension. But, thats the only thing that bugs me about its appearance. Need to fill the gap.

The japanese models look pretty good with their 215/45 18s, and the wheel width is only 7" wide, so 225/45 17 isn't a good idea.
9-K Rever 06-17-2004, 04:18 PM I wonder if the 225/50/17 will work on the stock rim..and would it make much of a diffrence.
pelucidor 06-17-2004, 06:29 PM Finally Subaru styling I like (car looks much better in real life than in these photos). Nice dials too. Congrats.
9-K Rever 06-17-2004, 06:48 PM Thank you, I will get more up this weekend.
What are the performance specs on that car, very nice by the way.
9-K Rever 06-17-2004, 07:04 PM Supposedly better than my RX8. I have been babying due to break it. But, it has 250HP/and 250lbft of tourque, with a 2.5 liter semi-closed deck STI engine in it.
Lets just say I am expecting 5.5 0-60..and 13.5 quatermile..but I won't know till I break it in.
Also, I has the climate control on today on the higway and the car was in in fith gear and it still pulled like a frieght train when I needed to ecelerate.
Its definatly a STI engine in that thing.
jedimaster 06-17-2004, 09:10 PM Uh oh- looks like someone's jealous! I don't think it looks anything like a Taurus. But I do think you sound like a knucklehead :p
ok, young padawan - perhaps yoda can use the force to show you the light.
"Moron, you are. Taurus, it looks like...big way, it does."

WRX8Titan 06-18-2004, 02:16 AM Awesome car! Good looks, nice interior, and lots of power! I can't find anything I don't like about that car (except that it should have got the shorter JDM bumpers). Ford Taurus? It looks nothing like a Taurus. What model year?
jedimaster 06-18-2004, 06:34 AM I think it's badass! Everyone is entitled to thier opinion however. Also, I'm completely and 100%, unequivocally, without a doubt- correct :D

Thanks!! I love it, the engine pulls like a freight train. Well...it is a STI motor.
Worlds diffrent from the RX8, I love haveing tourque in every gear and not have to wring the heck out of my engine to get some power.
People seem to have issues witht the bumpers..not I.. I have issues with the "Wheal Gap", but that can be fixed in time. No big rush.
I am getting my STI short shifter installed on Monday, and I am going to debadge and take more pics this weekend. Also I am going to see if my old strut tower brace will fit... Mabey..mabey not..
Sorry - I DO see hints of the Taurus in there.
jedimaster 06-18-2004, 01:23 PM Oh crap- you're right! They both have four wheels :D

chinx 06-18-2004, 02:49 PM sweet car. how the heck does that look like a taurus???
i love these new legacys. personally i prefer the wagon, and i like the bumpers and wheels on the jdm spec.B
congrats. tell us how it drives
You probably won't get those 0-60 and 1/4 times until it get's cooler out. I love turbos but the damn heat just kills the hell out of it. I used to have a first gen Eclipse with a 20g turbo and in the middle of the day (even with that turbo) it stuggled, but it was a huge difference at night when the temps dropped 20 degrees. Congrats and I hope you have alot of fun. Did you trade the 8 in or is this your second car?
9-K Rever 06-18-2004, 04:54 PM Yeah, but I have been suprised on how strong this engine is. With the AC on on a 90degre day and the car is pulling like a mule.
Its also a 2.5 liter semi-opean deck engine...its crazy strong!! Plus, the body is made of a ass load of aluminum so its light as hell!
More pics to come over the weekend.
Hey, that thing got a Hemi? Ok sorry no.
But, is it a turbo-boxer-4 quad-vario-cam?
I hadn't realized they made Legacy sedans. Here in LA I only see Legacy wagons and Outbacks.. along with the normal hordes of WRXs and STis.
I think I should get one for my mum.

50 series tires are too fat on the side wall, you'll get even more body roll than now and the side wall will eat away fast when you corner. Not a good profile for performance car.

This thing has variable exhaust valve timing?

Subaru uses AVCS (Active Valve Control System) variable valve timing technology to optimize the engine’s volumetric efficiency throughout the rev band.
9-K Rever 06-22-2004, 03:22 PM Yup..its a beast of an engine.
PoorCollegeKid 06-22-2004, 05:57 PM Do you know why they lowered the redline of the engine in the Legacy? The redline at 6500 is the same as the other 2.5L H4s in Subaru's various models, lower than the 7000 rpm redline in the STi's 2.5L H4. I'm just wondering why Subaru's engineers felt the need to drop the redline.

http://www.velozt.com/elements/04-wrx-sti/04-STi-gauge.jpg
9-K Rever 06-22-2004, 06:23 PM That is a good question. that has been thrown about here at www.legacysti.com . But, I just feel that tourqe delivery is at a much lower RPM and it reaches its maximum HP lower so the need to ring it out that high is not there.
Plus, I think they STI is supposed to have a sportier feel, and good sports cars have high red lines.
MikeW 06-23-2004, 09:50 PM Different cam lobes.
The engine basically has porsches variocam+ system, camswitching and camphasing on the intake side.
There is little diffence in maximum boost 1-2 psi, not enough to account for 50hp (and 500rpms), considering the better intercooler of the Legacy.

WOW MIKE!! :) AWSOME POST!
MikeW 06-24-2004, 10:35 AM The boxing 6 has this, and so does the WRX STi, so why not the Legacy? This would allow for better mileage and emissions, and STi matching power. Maybe the manual cannot handle over 275ft-lbs of torque.:(
9-K Rever 06-24-2004, 11:46 AM Well, lets keep in mind that it is a DE-TUNED STI engine..thay may be part of the DE-TUNING.

If the engine internals are heavier, it wouldn't be able to rev as high as the sti's engine.

From what I've read, the internals of the engine are exactly the same. The different cam timing makes sense and seems to be the prevailing theory so far (although the Legacy GT still uses the AVCS system), but I was wondering if anyone has actually opened the engine up and verified that the cams in the Legacy GT are indeed different from those in the STi.

I am sure they just tune down the power so they can up it on the later model and keeps selling these cars. Not to mention they don't want to out spec their flat 6 version which has the same horse power.
9-K Rever 06-29-2004, 03:45 PM It already out specs the 6 cyleder version. The turbo 4 has more tourque.
The 6 cylender is just a marketing ploy.

Yes I'm talking about horsepower. You know most people don't even care and know of the torque numbers.

But Hanzo.. what I am trying to say is the H6 is out classed by the turbo B4. The H6 is a heavier car, and it has less tourqe. The B4 sedan is lighter has the same HP and more Torque. The H6 is just here for the american market for those people that think 6 is better than 4...

Like I said, people only look at HP numbers they don't know if it is heavier or has less torque.
And the American marketing thing, I was the one that told you that last time. Ralph agrees with me as well.
