How can Mazda justify the prices of the Strakes and the front/rear rotary crests and mats? $175 for mats??? almost $500 for the strakes?

Does anyone know where to get cheaper alternatives or a cheaper source for Mazda accessories?

nop.. but then again, it's not a cheap car.
if u must get it cheaper, you can buy from overseas like Japan, US and install them yourself I guess?

They can't justify it in my eyes....that's why I bought absolutely nothing extra........( edit: except two Special keys.....!)
There are no shortages of people prepared to open their wallets though, I s'pose Mazda don't see any reason to lower the price of accessories.

I went to a Mazdaspeed product research pow-wow six weeks back.......believe me when I tell you things are going to get worse before they get any better!!!!

First thing -- try to get some of them thrown in as part of the purchase deal -- I got mats, even on a pre-order.

Secondly, get to know your spare parts guy or other spare parts guys. They will haggle. I managed to get front and rear crests for $150 all up, which I felt ... OK ... about :p

Hey Timbo, you can feel a little better as I paid $180 :(

And as much as I love the strakes, I cannot justify the $'s...

I got my mats for free (like most ppl would i assume), that was one of the first things they offered when they said they can't reduce the price nemore than discussed. I paid $700 for a MP3player+exaust finisher.

However, they refused to sell me the fender strakes for under $400. So i got them from Japanparts for 323AUD shipped.

So yeh, it's even cheaper to import these things from overseas (even with shippin prices and what ever taxes) than to pay your dealership those insane prices.

how complex are they?

wonder if anybody hs ot a set ( non installed) to take to a local engineer to get a price on making a set.

If anybody has a set of diagrams I'll get a contact to make a set up.

With some implant work I do there is a local engineer who makes a whole lot of parts for us. For example a certain part from a supplier would cost approx $300, he manufactures for me a superior part with a superior grade of titanium $140.

Thinking to self: I'll ask if he can make a titanium gear knob modelled on the existing knob.

Bloody rip off for all of them... but shop around, not all dealers charge the same, the two dealers in Canberra have a roughly 25% difference in price between the two of them and they're both owned by the same people!

Same as Yanje . I use Japanparts.com and try to install it myself. If I can :D

Try Rosenthal Mazda in US as well... small stuff are quite cheap in the US

Also, I recall someone (DMRH?) suggesting we contact the spare parts manager at the dealer in Gosford, who is a rotar fanatic and who can sometimes help with parts prices. Darren/Darryl? Gomez probably remembers :)

Check with Darren. I think you'll find that with the recent hike in the exchange rate, the prices he'll offer aren't too bad

Here I was reading through the thread thinking I should suggest Darrin again for this issue. Quite impressed to find you guys are already on the ball.

Darrin refuses to adopt the other side mentality. He is always on your side & does everything he can for getting the best prices. He has a national reputation for rotary parts to all corners of the country.
