I park at my girlfriends driveway over night and come back to see my cars been keyed from the front hood all the way to the trunk on the driver side panels. To make it worst, it wasn't even a once over. The prick came back and ran it again. I didn't sleep with anyone's girlfriend! I didn't beat up a guys kid brother! What did I do to deserve this!? Jealous bastards!!! OK thanks for listening to my rant. I'll post pics up later.

It seems alot of these threads originate from CA

There must be a lot of jealous mofo's in that state.

so what do you guys do in a situation like this? Claim it as part of the insurance or a lot of elbow grease?

Ok i just got back from the body shop with an estimate. Its going to cost 1700 to fix it. I didn't get any pics of it but the guys over at the body shop are sending digital pics to the insurance adjuster. I'll ask him if he can email it to me too. Thanks for the sympathy guys. It actually makes me feel better. No one can understand my pain like you guys. It put a damper on my entire weekend and my friends couldn't understand why I was so upset over my car. I think I need new friends. haha.

Probably drives something like this:

Fukker. He should have his citizenship revoked for failure to play well with others.

Sorry about your car. The repair estimate sounds reasonable.

Something about the 8 seems to bring out the worse in some people. I haven't been victim of vandalism (touch wood), but check out my thread about "bad attitude on the road". It's as if by driving an 8, you have personally insulted and put a curse on their mother's grave or somethin'

Sorry to hear that, I sympathize with you. I get so angry over stuff like this. Would the shock sensor help prevent this kind of damage? If so, I'm going to purchase it.

Thanks again guys for the sympathy. Im looking into getting a proximity alarm and shock sensor and also a new cover for the car. Can you tell I'm paranoid now? Look what they did to me! Oh and I was in San Jose, CA when this happened. Its a relatively nice neighborhood but there ARE a lot of bratty teens with their riced our civics and integras. I'm suspecting it was one of them. I know its a stereotype but I can't help it.

I am very sorry to hear about your bad ordeal. I hope who ever did that will get struck by lightning and if he survives that, get attacked by a swarm of killer bees. :p

There are a lot of jealous people in this world and I pray something like that won't happen to me.

Just out of curiosity... Do you think that the people working in body shops do these kind of things?...Nah, can't be.

ZoominRex
06-14-2004, 01:43 PM
I was thinking about that too. It does create business for them. I did not end up in a body shop anywhere near where it happened though as I live some ways away from my gf.

Since it seems to be a quaint place, is there a possibility of posting REWARD signs up? Not to give a reward, but see if any of the brats rat the other out?? At least scare the crap out of them, embarrass the person's family, or get a picture of him and let the Lounge at it and then post them all around the neighborhood!! ! :D :p

I would do any of the above if there was no chance of retaliation. How well do you like this chic? Will you ever be back to her place?? LOL

I think since your car is already scratched... why not park over there again? Set up a video camera inside the house and record it as it sits in the driveway. Better yet, if you can can, keep an eye on it as long as you can and have a bat in hand....Well, you get the rest of the idea. :p

ZoominRex
06-14-2004, 02:34 PM
haha. while all good ideas, I sincerely hope it was a one time lashing out of this pathetic individual. I just don't know why he hit my car and not the other 2 parked in front of me. I'm getting the car repainted today. I just couldn't stand the look of it. It broke my heart the entire weekend looking at it. I may as well have had a huge scar on my face. Ok now I sound overly obssessive of my car. I am ordering a car cover for the car and hopefully that will help. I can't think of any other way to deter them. I've been parking at the same spot for the last 4 years and this is the only time anything like this has happened to me. I pray it was a one-off incident. Can you imagine if I parked there again with my fresh paint and the bastard did it again? Holy hell there would be heads rolling.

I feel for ya. My 8 was keyed on the driver side back door. Nice & deep too. People nowadays are just jerks.

Glad to hear you are already getting it fixed.

Damn! This happened in San Jose!?! I live 30 minutes away, but I never take my 8 when visiting friends and family there. Although my reasons are mostly traffic related (crazy f'in drivers in San Jo), I am always apprehensive about driving my 8 there, so I take my 1991 Toyota Previa!

I would take alternate means of transportation if I had any but my 8 is my daily grinder.

I'm starting to notice this too. My NSX was parked outside my friends place and some asshole egged it.

Now I have to get the trunk and rear fener and front bumper repainted. It sucks...now my rates are gonna go up. Its going to be my first claim with insurance. Oh well....I pay for insurance, I might as well use it.

It is sad that this kind of thing happens; my wife’s 2004 Cayenne S was keyed at a Publix parking lot here in Miami (We live in a good neighborhood). She was parked in a stroller spot with a permit and was with my 2 year old daughter grocery shopping when some envious SOB keyed the car for absolutely no reason (The wife was very upset and felt almost violated)... Since then I sold it and bought her a completely loaded Mazda MPV to keep away the attention...

That is another reason I have decided to keep the eight for weekends and shows (She is a little more visible now with all the mods), she is now safely parked in the garage and gets out on nice days...

Sorry, wish all people were better than that…

I feel ya.

Someone keyed my hood, right around the rotary shape. It's not super deep.....hairline in fact, but it's irritating and a reminder of people's hate.

I haven't gotten it fixed yet...not sure it's worth the deductable...

My previous car (Firebird) was keyed in San Jose, CA as well.
While I was at my gf's, my ex-ex-.. came by and put ~ 24 long scratches on it, both sides.

She called us while I was at the gf's house and recommended to 'check on my car', that's how I know it was her... no proof for the cops.

Insurance paid $1500, I paid $500 :-(

My general theory for vandalism in California and the metro areas (Bay Area, LA) in particular is that there's more stress on people than in rural Nebraska. The state is in the red, no money, cuts everywhere.. so also more poverty lately.

The anger comes out eventually.

That's a sad thing to have to do... drive an old car out of fear for your new car. I do it myself.

I don't think it's poverty. There are plenty of punks wearing expensive shoes. They just have an attitude that if they can't have it, their going to mess with yours. I want to hope that it will happen to them someday when they have something nice... one can wish can't they. My wife's last car, a 2000 Accord had some punk put 43 scratches into the front bumper. At least they didn't go up and down the sides of the car, the hood, etc.

Its definitely frustrating to know that it cost them 30 seconds of stupidity and jealousy but cost me hundreds of dollars and heartache.

someone jacked my honda emblems off of my '01 prelude while i was at the movie theater. they got under the emblems with a screwdriver or a key and really pried them off. anyone have any problems with stolen emblems yet?

I have been keyed before and after talking with my insurance agent I found out some interesting info..you have two types of coverage..collision and comprehensive. collision covers your car if you cause an accident and comp covers your car for acts of nature, vandalizm..etc. usually claims to your comprehensive does not cause your insurance rates to go up since its not your fault. I raised my premium on my collision to 1000 and lowered the comp to 200 and I am actually paying less per month on my insurance..I figure if I cause the accident I will pay the 1000 out of my own pocket but if I get keyed that will only cost me 200. my deductibles were 500 and 500 before... this will not hurt the wallet as bad if someone wants to be an a-hole and get key crazy.

I doubt anyone would want a Mazda emblem ... nor is it the trend to wear it like they did back in the early 90's. So no real threat of that happening... either way I'm debadged anyhows :P

Coincidentally I caught someone keying some guys car at the mall this past weekend... of course the Jackhole in me had to intervene, got the guys license plate number as he was driving away and left a note on the keyed owners car. I didn't have time to confront the guy since it was other the other side of the barrier... and besides he was huge (chubby) hispanic guy. I'm just a tiny Asian guy.

Man I'm so asking for it if this guy hunts me down and keys my 8. Luckily it's not my neighborhood... Glendale Galleria Mall.

Yo, I used to live up in San Jo, in fact I grew up there, and its not bad at all! It makes me wonder where you live if it is so bad you can't even drive your 8. You probably wouldn't last in the streets of LA. I think you have to live in the real world to get a dose of reality and grow some cajones just to drive! Why even get the car???
