View Full Version : The Mustang vs G35 vs RX-8 comparo is on C&D TV!!!!
ZoomZoomH 03-08-2003, 12:07 PM you either turn to TNN right now to watch it or tune in Sunday at 12:30!!!!!!!!
I am so glad I've set up my VCR to automatically tape C&D every saturday :D
Donny Boy 03-08-2003, 12:20 PM Thanks for the heads up
Elara 03-08-2003, 12:24 PM Watching it as I write!
I just saw it!
I love the way the Stang absolutely blasted forward on the track, although it did look really wobbly and akward whenever it tried to change direction.
The G35c is a great sport-luxury coupe, but that wing just doesn't fit it at all.
The RX-8 just looked so tight and so natural on the track. It just didn't looked strained at all.
But holy crap, that announcer chick... soooo annoying..
laferle 03-08-2003, 02:01 PM anyone have a copy of the broadcast? I'd love to see it but missed it
unemployedpimp 03-08-2003, 02:16 PM damn i missed it too , can somebody post it up
zoom44 03-08-2003, 02:33 PM it's on again tomorrow:)
tribal azn 03-08-2003, 03:15 PM hmm interesting, during close up shots the rx8 had cloth, but other pics show red/black leather
and they also refer to it as a "2 liter" rotary when its 1.3
wakeech 03-08-2003, 03:16 PM :( i can't wait that long!! dammit!! i wish, for only this one reason, i had more American cable channels...

yeah the pics in the mag show cloth also read my post in the thread about the mag article. the other pics showing the red/black leather are probably ones they took earlier at laguna seca
ZoomZoomH 03-08-2003, 04:09 PM yeah they used various photos they took at other events for this piece.
When they said the as-tested price of $28300 for the RX-8, I was so happy because that's IMO the 'sweet spot' for performance and comfort/amenities for this car :D
cueball 03-09-2003, 11:55 AM Just saw it today.:D Great show.
Good Duck 03-09-2003, 12:37 PM I recorded the comparo onto MPEG1 in two segments. I'll post them if anyone will host them.
j-apex rx 03-09-2003, 01:19 PM they said 56 front 48 back that means is not 50 50 front to back.
Lensman 03-09-2003, 01:21 PM 56/48 means it's beating the laws of physics too. ;)
laferle 03-09-2003, 01:42 PM i'll host for a while until my bandwidth allocation runs out... email them to me.. nate at laferle dot com

Umm.. 52-48
I got it in one 92MB MPEG1 file.. anyone want to host it?
RotorMotor 03-09-2003, 02:56 PM The best line of the show was "the RX8 gets a perfect 10 in the 'fun to drive' category." :D :D :D
DonG35Miata 03-10-2003, 12:09 AM Anyone posted the show yet? Can't wait to see it!
Hercules 03-10-2003, 12:21 AM I'm waiting to add it to my collection Don :D

Thanks for making these videos available for everyone of us here on the forum. I really appreciate it.

Puppy1 03-10-2003, 10:20 AM "Knife edged handling" SWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
SA22C 03-10-2003, 10:40 AM Everything is there for a world class car. CD says knife edge handling, killer track dynamics and great road feel. They also say that you have to row the gears and use the motor to get that performance, which is no chore at all, topping out their 'fun to drive' category. Once again, while the strict numbers may say one thing, the overall car says another. As I've mentioned numerous times, Mazda cars have always been more than the sum of their parts, and the RX-8 is doing that and more. Not to mention that the 8 as tested is 7k less than the Mustang and the G35c. That's alot of dough for a split second at the track.
ZoomZoomH 03-10-2003, 10:40 AM the video clip showing difference between the svt and the rx-8 in the emergency lane change maneuver test is astounding. The RX-8 just cuts through the lane change like nothing happened, at a MUCH MUCH faster speed too!

Lensman 03-10-2003, 12:56 PM Gamera, you the man!!!
Luckily I found the link before your service was halted. Interesting show from the perspective of a European like me and thanks for hosting the file.
jonalan 03-10-2003, 01:18 PM They also say that you have to row the gears and use the motor to get that performance, which is no chore at all, topping out their 'fun to drive' category.
What does it mean to "row the gears"?
zoom44 03-10-2003, 01:36 PM thanks again Gamera! one more for the archives:)

row = shift
shift = fun
therefore RX-8 = fun :D

94se7en 03-10-2003, 05:04 PM OK, this is killin' me. Is the C&D video posted anywhere currently?
thanks
mike

ProtegeESOwner 03-10-2003, 05:59 PM Can someone please have MERCY and post the link again.......
Ron_Jeremy 03-10-2003, 06:09 PM Gamera ....
You are God ...thanks for hosting ...comparo was awesome! Was watching it while on a conference call today ....did my attention get distracted? hmmmm..... (still watching for the 10th time) :)
etang789 03-10-2003, 06:17 PM arr.... the link is dead? can some one host it again??
RXhusker 03-10-2003, 07:58 PM Finally had a chance to watch the download! Awesome!!!:D
The RX-8 looks incredible next to the other two cars -- the curves -- the lines if I say anymore my wife will get jealous.
You could tell the C&D guys were impressed and couldn't stop raving about the handling. If they had reviewed one with the GT package the comparo would have been a total blow-out.
The part showing the emergency lane change with the RX and the Mustang was hilarious. The RX looked like a world-class skier carving the course and the Mustang looked like an out of control first timer lost on a black diamond run :D
DonG35Miata 03-10-2003, 08:43 PM Will someone please post it again! Please email me at donlindich@mac.com when it is up!!
RX-Nut 03-11-2003, 01:05 PM well, my version is a bit fatter (due to the dimensions and bitrate), at 74MB, but if you want it, you can find it at..
http://66.206.4.159/cd.zip
DL it while you can..
Sorry didnt have time to make the file smaller, but hey beggers cant be choosey.. :)
pelucidor 03-11-2003, 02:44 PM Did everyone notice how complimentary the test driver was about the Mustang before giving it last place - talk about low expectations. What impressed me the most is that the RX-8 was less than 1 sec behind the Mustang but had a deficit of 150hp and 230lb ft torque.
etang789 03-11-2003, 04:10 PM thanx RX-Nut finally i got the link to download the file...wow ur server is fast man...i downloaded in 2 mins...thanx a lot...now i am going to watch it....:p
rxeightr 03-11-2003, 04:35 PM Certainly appreciate the link being made available once again. IMHO, I consider this a 'must see' for anyone considering any of these 3 fine sports cars.
It appears to delve a little deeper than the article C&D published.
Thanks again !!

being able to see all 3 cars in motion gives you that extra feel about the car, that you don't get in static pictures and writings :D
Gamera 03-11-2003, 05:00 PM RX-Nut, thanks for posting your capture, it's always good to spread the bandwidth.
Here's an updated link (I finally switched my hosting service):

RX-Nut 03-11-2003, 06:00 PM Thx... no problem!
FYI, I dumped my capture and am now using Gamera's one. His is better than mine and faster to download..
Use this link instead..

FamilyGuy 03-14-2003, 04:55 PM Pelucidor, let's give credit where credit is due. I'm pretty sure they said the Mustang Cobra had a 4.6 0-60 and a 13ish in the quarter mile. They got a 5.9 0-60 on the RX8 and a... sonofagun, I don't remember what they got for the quarter mile.
If you want tremendous straight-line acceleration, there's a world of difference between that Mustang and the RX-8. As far as I know, if you want to beat that kind of straight line acceleration you'll need to buy a 'vette.
Of course, if you want usable back seats, cool styling, a rotary engine, better gas mileage, cheaper insurance, top notch handling, and $7,000 less to pay off in a car loan, that all adds up to a world and a half of difference in the RX-8's favor.
I'm easy to satisfy in this regard. The cars my wife and I have pull an 8.5 in the 0-60 mph. Going from that to 6 seconds will be more than enough to satisfy me. :D

I second that. I don't know what the 0-60 is on this baby, but I think the rx-8 is going to just edge by it...

When the designers said they were going to get a 104% out of the RX-8 they meant it.
Seriously, with driver it is 52/48. Without driver it almost 50/50, and with 4 people in the car its is supposed be about 48/52.
Regardless, 2% isn't that big of a deal.

moogle 03-16-2003, 04:55 AM dam rxnut ur site is fast... got 500k out of it. thanks.
RX-Nut 03-16-2003, 11:32 AM thanks.. I try.. heheh..
