Quick question...any1 know where i can get a nice car cover for this car..but not to expensive..the one at mazda is like $250

 

What is it like learning to drive stick in that car? I might do that too.

 

I was teaching my girlfriend how to drive stick the other day in my 8. She didn't stall... I'm still not sure if it was because she was good or the car was good.

 

Chicks dig the stick, bank. That's all that matters.


Other than that, it's very easy to drive the manual 8. It's a short throw shifter, clutch is just right. It won't take you long to get the hang of it. The 8 does not have a lot of torque, though, so you'll need to give it a little gas (i'm thinking 1500 -2000 RPMs) when shifting into first gear.

 

yeah easy car to drive stick and i noticed the other day on flat ground reverse catches without any gas...you can just pull the clutch up and it engages...really really cool

 

Once you've got the hang of it, you'll be able to pull away from a stop without reving above 1200-1400 or so. This will minimize wear from over-slipping the clutch. Its all about proper modulation of the clutch and throttle.

 

the great thing here is that this kids question hasnt gotten answered...........we are all talking about manual transmission.......

and I dont know bout the car cover, but i do know that mazda has one you can get, but i bet it costs like ........well A LOT

 

Yea I've been thinking about learning to drive stick too, but I'm not sure how to start, because none of my immediate family drive stick. Are there any courses that you can take to help you learn to drive stick?

 

The Mazda Car Cover is $162 from the Mazdaspeed Motorsports site. It is custom fit to the car, but other covers (with a looser fit can be found many different places.

 

So you just payed over 30k for your car and your complaining about 250 dollars

I had a Mazda cover for my Miata and it was very nice. The fit was great, and you could even lock it. Recommended.

Thank you all..one more question..ne tips on how take off..while on a hill...like i get mad nervous when im on a Hill and theres a car behind me..cause i start to roll backwards....ne help guys???

 

Are you new to MT?
Use the parking (emergency) brake until you get faster at it - put the brake on while the clutch is in. Put the gear shifter into first and keep your hand on the brake and have it unlocked. As you release the clutch (slowly no need to rush) you will start to feel a slight strain as the car tries to move against the brake. At this point, drop the brake while slowly completing the release of the clutch, and you're on your way.
As you get better try releasing the brake just before the car starts to go - eventually you won't need it, even on really big, bad hills. Another trick of the trade is when you are pulling up to a stop on a hill, leave a big space between you and the car ahead of you. If a car comes up behind you, wait until it has come to a stop and try inching foward a little into the space ahead of you before the light changes - you'll be under less pressure, and in less of a hurry, so it will be easier than starting up for real. Once you inch up, chances are with any luck, the guy behind you will A)realize you are driving a MT and B) not fill the gap behind you. That will give you a lot more breathing room to get the car going on a hill. This is one trick I have never outgrown...

ps - you can practice the emergency brake thing on flat ground to get the hang of it
