To quote Herc (and start a long, boring rant),
Let it be a sign that the RX-8forum.com members won't stand for the trollish posts! We won't need mods to close threads because members just ignore those who make no valid contributions.
I completely agree with this- and so far, this forum has been amazingly troll-free compared to every other forum I've ever been on- and I belong to quite a few. You guys are all great, and have managed to make me feel at home and welcome, even though I'm one of probably about four women that post here.
However, I think this needs to go both ways. I know that many of you also frequent other boards (in fact, I've seen many of your screen names paired with posting styles I recognize elsewhere) and for the most part make significant contributions when you do post and aren't trying to cause issues. However, there are some (and you know who you are) who have been deliberately trolling on other boards- the most recent I've seen has been on my350z.com.
Deliberately posting new topics with inflammatory comments that brag about how the RX-8 beats the 350z and/or G35 coupe in magazine articles doesn't do anyone any good. There's a reason that place is full of 350z enthusiasts and this is full of RX-8 enthusiasts. Being a jerk by trying to prove something to them is only going to bring them trolling over here to do the same. If you want to join there and read their posts to get a feel for what they like about their car and how they feel about how it stands up to other cars. great- that's what I did too. But to attack them on their own territory is just dumb. And please note this doesn't apply to everyone, but any means. Some people posting over there about the RX-8 have made some really great, thoughtful comments, bashing neither car but bringing up good points about each.
Anyway, this is only my opinion, and believe me, I've thought long and hard about posting anything about this over the past couple of weeks- but I really feel it needs to be said. And obviously, anyone can post anything they want, anywhere they want. But I don't like it when trolls come here posting stupid inflammatory stuff. And I doubt other boards like it much either (generally speaking). I would just ask everyone who does go to other boards to think long and hard before they start picking a fight about the RX-8. We don't want a reputation as a board full of trolls. And that's probably the best way to keep them out of here as well.
Ok, end of long boring rant.
