View Full Version : Love how RX-8 Owners have such comaraderie.
Outlaws eXtreme 06-04-2004, 05:33 AM I've owned many different types of cars in my life.. and no other has been as enjoyable socially as the Rotary cars. When I see another Rotary on the road, we will acknowledge each other. Just the other day an FC drove by be going the opposite way. Both directions were stopped at a red light. And he lowered his window to tell me the 8 is a great addition to the rotary family.
I mean, no other car has this type of this instant comaraderie. Maybe it's because we're still few and far between... but at least we started off with a closeness.. and even if more people join in to appreciate the car, especially the RX-8, then it's fine by me... we can just let them know of what has already been going on.
Btw, three times already my friend that owns a 350z has tried and wave at a passing by 350z. 2 of the owners were older guys, 1 younger. All three ignored him or gave him the.. "What do you want" look. Then with my above example, when we were going to lunch... and the FC waved, he asked me... it must be a Rotary thing. Ya it must be. :)

rot8ryx 06-04-2004, 07:26 AM Yeah... the other day i was just driving... and i got a honk from another rx-8.. just love it!!!!! power to all rotary drivers!!!
mysql101 06-04-2004, 07:58 AM I think it exists in many cars, especially during the first year run.
The problem with the RX-8 is that it will become another Eclipse soon, as Mazda is making and selling a ton of them.
Elara 06-04-2004, 08:04 AM the only other vehicle I've seen this kind of love in is Jeeps- Jeep guys (and gals) are almost psychopathic in their desire to wave at other jeep owners, it seems.
Aside from a few stuck up female 8 drivers, EVERYONE in another rotary vehicle waves. It's such a great feeling to be waved at or nodded to by a 7 or another 8.
blue flash 06-04-2004, 12:05 PM i'meet 2 other 8's on the road and both went out of their way to make sure i saw them .so i quess we are a close family . but i noticed riding in my friends vet that they are the same way .
guy321 06-04-2004, 12:20 PM Vette owners are pretty friendly

Just *had* to say that, didn't you? lol... I just traded in my Eclipse for my 8 :)
CRX(si especially) owners were like that too. Very often exchanging friendly honks, waves, etc. Always made my day.
In the last few months, I've only seen a whopping three RX-8s, none of them after I bought mine. I'll be sure to wave if I see another :)
mysql101 06-04-2004, 01:06 PM Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing other RX-8's on the road. I look for them. But I rue the day when the RX-8 becomes as common on the road as Mustangs as inevitably will be the case, given the car's styling, low cost, and usability.
guy321 06-04-2004, 01:08 PM It won't becase our 8's are garbage.. they flood.. they get horrendous gas mileage.. they have a wierd engine.. They don't offer good HP/$$ ratio get my drift? ;)

mysql101 06-04-2004, 01:10 PM Yeah, it's saving grace is the poor fuel economy.
Blue_Chameleon 06-04-2004, 06:24 PM In my 95 Camaro Z28, other Camaro owners wave, do the rock on thing with their hand, or nod. :)
In my 03 Accord, I get nothing but older people looking at me. :(
I guess it depends on the car and who drives it.
Kaliken 06-04-2004, 06:56 PM heck i wave at 350Z owners and they look at me all funny.. .
best run in with another rotary enthusist was with a beauty RX-3 on the 91 freeway yeah seriously, it was completely clean an purring like a cat.. the guy in the car gave me a huge thumbs up. and we coasted together for about a mile.. very cool..
lets keep it up...
oh yeah I still leave a little note on any I see pointing them to the club...
HiTMaNN 06-04-2004, 07:10 PM hemi??? is that ahemi
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :D hemis are over rated
MRX_Rotary 06-04-2004, 07:32 PM Ah yes, I'd love to do the same, give the headlight wave from my FC. But, I'm never in my FC whenever I see other rotaries on the road!
The Miata inspired a similar camraderie, at least for the first few years. Mazda at its best knows how to make cars that inspire their owners. They're sort of the Apple(tm) of car manufacturers.
It's the same in the Subaru community and in particular WRXs, also in my area and most area there are weekly meets and pretty regular special events and drives. It makes owning a great car that much better when you have a good community to go along with it.
rotarygod 06-05-2004, 03:54 PM We still like you Ike! :D
hotpot 06-05-2004, 04:00 PM WRX owners have to re-assure one another that their cars aren't so ugly every week. :)
