That's going to be an interesting one- at least they're giving him a car he can respect. Did you guys see the one where they got stuck with the PT Cruiser (I forget now what they had to turn it into)? I have never seen him so pissed off about a car- he HATED that thing more than anyone I've ever seen!

The PT cruiser was turned into a shredder/chipper.

I wonder if theyll totally demolish the interior like they did with other cars on the rx7.

I saw it.

Didnt feel so bad about the car, but I cried when I saw those cobra racing seats get melted those things are like 1000 a piece.
And a 1000 NOS kit gone to waste.

I dont understand why they trashed it though. He lost in the snomobile one and they didnt wreck it. I think there was more than meets the eye, it probably was way too slow.

The good thing is they didnt trash the rotary when they were building the car. I didnt think that 5th sand wheel was too good of an idea.

I for one thought it was tragic seeing that beauty being blown to bits. I posted the end of the episode here (http://staff.rwu.edu/mmassa/videos/rx7_sandrail_384.wmv). Please right click and "save target as".

My guess is that when they found out they'd get to use that machine gun, they decided they'd intentionally lose so they could tear the car to shreds. I'm betting the build crew still got their tool sets.

Hey, if you had a chance to blow up a car, you'd take it, right?

i'm not slipping. i don't remember from watching it last night what they said but i do know for fact that the normal 7.62 mm (thats 30 caliber in american;) ) vulcan mini gun has a firing rate that actually exceeds somewhat 6,000 rounds per minute. i have had the pleasure to see these guns fired in person on 2 occassions. there is also a 40mm vulcan can which fires at nearly the same rate. this is the version that is mounted on the ac130 gunship affectionately known as "puff the magic dragon" if you ever see one circling a target and firing at night you will understand why when you see it "breathing fire" you of course do not want to be on the receiving end. things litterally just dissapear when fired upon. there is also a version of the larger gun which the A-10 warthog designed around. that's the plane flown by the air force who's mission is to destroy tanks, among other things.

Too much misinformation here for me to ignore.

The 40mm cannon in an AC-130/U is an L60 Bofors with a maximum firing rate of 120 rpm. There is also a General Electric 25 mm GAU-12 gun with a rate of 1,800 rpm and a 105 mm M-102 Howitzer with a rate of 10 rpm. None of these guns approach the 6,600 rpm of a 7.62 mm minigun. The A-10 Warthog uses a 30 mm GAU-8 cannon with a max rate of fire of about 4,800 rpm (I think).

i stand corrected. i regret the misinformation on the ac130. it has been a long time since i learned about them and i obviously have forgotten much. thank you.

thank you again. at least i was right about the rate of the mini gun.

The A-10 Warthog uses a 30 mm GAU-8 cannon with a max rate of fire of about 4,800 rpm (I think).

i wasn't wrong there either although i admit to hedging by saying "a version of the larger gun". i knew it wasn't 40mm but didn't take the time to check the facts before i posted that bit. i should have said " a similar gun in larger caliber" instead. on further research because of my obviously untrustworthy memory i found this quote "Heading up it's powerful weapons array is a 30 mm GAU-8/A seven-barrel Gatling gun which has devastating power even against a main battle tank. This weapon fires at an incredible 3,900 rounds per minute." i can't seem to find anything that says over 4,000 rpm but several references to "over 3,550 rpm"

here is some info on the m61-a1 20mm vulcan cannon (http://www.military.cz/usa/air/in_service/weapons/cannons/vulcan/cannon_vulcan_en.htm) which also fires at @6,600 rom and can be found on a variety of u.s. military aircraft. this must be the one i was thinking of when i made the incorrect statements above. sorry i seem to have hi jacked the thread. i'll stop now

Not exactly a multiple-use weapon, is it?

Here's the scoop.

Today I spoke on the phone with one of the team members of the rx7 sandrail episode. The conversation yielded a few intersting tidbits

The car was purchased for $5,000.
The car was in mint condition.
The car was predestined to fail.

Saw it, I was disappointed to see a beautiful car cut apart to be made into a sand buggy of sorts. However, when they shot the car to pieces, I was pissed, to say the least.
