Damn it, now I've been wrong twice in my life!!! When playing with my RX-7 yesterday, I couldn't figure out why the hell the car ran so horribly. The timing was so far off that it drove me crazy trying to figure out why. The engine was rough and was making noises that a rotary should never make. It was pretty scary sounding. I played with the thing for a few hours. I then decided to check something so simple that I can't believe I made this error. I've done this too many times to mess up like this. I hooked up the leading spark plug wires to the trailing coils and vice versa. To make matters worse I am running a wasted spark setup. The car was running on preignition! The engine automatically revs to 3500 rpm at startup. If you've never heard preignition at 3500 rpm, trust me, you dont want to. Anyways the point of this thread is twofold. Yes I ocassionally make mistakes. ;) Secondly, if I didn't blow up a rotary engine with this error, there is no point what so ever in worrying about detonation killing your RX-8 engines during ecu tuning. My mistake was far worse than a simple little ping and the engine still works perfectly. If it had been under any form of boost, I would be pulling the motor out about now.

Well, at least you were man enough to come forward with your mistake. We are only human. On a side note, good news about not worrying about our cars detonating. :D

That reminds me of the time I had exposed a control rod to 32% on a nuclear reactor.
Sheeeesh.....people can sure get upset over little things like that.
:D :D

:D :D I don't know raz.. you sure don't look like you are OK there in your avatar! :D
Thanks for the concern. You must have something(s) on your mind to booger that. I'm glad all is well with your engine though! :)

WOW rotarygod is a rotaryhuman after all!! :D
I did this once to my 84 GSL but it wouldn't start so I went ahead and made it worse by trying to push start it!! When I got a HUGE backfire (and I mean HUGE like it scared the s..t out of me, I thought my car exploded) with an incredibly HUGE fireball out the exhaust I stopped trying and went back and found my mistake.
Yes, the engine was perfectly fine like nothing happened
Check my sig for some reasoning behind this...
