I recently took on the project of sanding the orange peel out of my paint. This process removes a little clearcoat but just enough to flatten it out. Typical factory clearcoat is about 2.5-3 mils thick and this process removes about .5-.75 mil. Here's a good before and after. The left part is the drivers side fender which has been sanded and buffed. the right panel is the door which is untouched.

Here's the trunklid with the opened garage door reflected in it for reference lines.

Here's a good close up of the fender and hoodline. I am available by appointment. If you would like to see how I do this, check out this thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29237&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Thanks guys!
I'm sorry to hear about your RX7 Paulie, I made a few boo-boo's on my last car when I did this. Lesson's learned, the 8 is going much more smoothly. Maybe I'll change my screenname to Rotarybuffergod.........nah.

Yes, it looks great! My wife was with me and being sarcastic. She didn't see the difference. So I pointed out the building lines, and she understood. Now if I can only talk her into approving the 2k the paint shop might charge to do mine.
