This will be my first post, I have been reading these threads for a while..I have clipped this from an email from Http://www.thecarconnection.com[url] Please read below, I am hoping that this doesnt change the outcome of the RX-8 for all of you whom ordered or plan on ordering in the future. I believe some of you may have met this gentleman and I know the Dan from Rotarynews has spoken with him. Once again I dont what if anything this will mean to the release of the RX-8 or any other production vehicle. Just an F.Y.I.

HUGHES QUITS MAZDA ABRUPTLY
Charlie Hughes has left the building - that building being Ford's Premier Automotive Group headquarters in Irvine. Late last night Mazda announced that Hughes had resigned from the company as president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. A spokesperson told Automotive News that the decision "involved many people, including our board of directors." Hughes, who led Land Rover through its major expansion in the U.S., had un-retired in October 2000 to lead the Japanese carmaker's U.S. operations. John Mendel, Mazda's executive vice president of sales, marketing, parts and service, will become acting president.

nice find, ... however you may notice Mazda changes presidents like some people change their oil filters... I won't worry about it until I hear the worst.

any word of who will be stepping up to take his place? Personally I would like to see Robert Davis is that position. He is on of the VP's and headed up the Mazdaspeed Program. I have had the opportunity to speak with him before, and can honestly say he is one of the biggest performance/car nuts I have ever meet.

The article posted above says that for now ... John Mendel, Mazda's executive vice president of sales, marketing, parts and service, will become acting president. I would expect he will run things for a while or a successor will be named soon.
