Hi, I'm a sales consultant for an eastern Ontario Mazda dealer. If anybody needs any info on the new RX-8, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions. If I don't know the answer, then I'll find it and get back to you. Look forward to discussing this car with you people.

what ports do mazdas enter the country thru? we assume one on the east coast and one on the west coast. how long does it take for a ship to get to these ports once it leaves the dock in japan (on average of course)?

How bright are the lights under the side-view mirrors. Are there any photographs of the ground illuminated by these lights? If so, can you post them?

Believe me 2buyCme, most of the people on this forum know a lot more about the car than you do :)

Most all our questions can be answered from rx8orders@mazdausa.com. Thanks for the offer though, but there's no soliciting of sales thru the site :) Just keep it in mind.

Here's one maybe you can answer...

Are small cities in Northeastern Ontario (North Bay, Sudbury, etc) even going to get ANY RX-8s the first year? If so, what are the odds of getting a test drive?

Thanks!

How about the weight of the Canada spec RX-8s and the US spec RX-8s? :D

You know, I almost feel sorry for the poor guy now...I don't think he was quite expecting THIS type of reception.

And with that, I DO have some questions- do you have any updates on the extras (ie MP3 player, 6 cd changer)? Like which are going to be available and how much they're going to cost? And I'm curious about the overseas shipping time as well- I want to know when my car is going to be here, darn it! And an answer to the weight question would be lovely, especially if it's under 3,000 lbs.

Oh and my husband wants to know what sort of subliminal messages are in your zoom zoom ads that cause his wife to talk about mazda all day, every day.

Strider I'm not interested in the information the saleman has aside from being helpful.

When I ask that I want updates as he gets them, to tell me when I can order, and not BS about all kinds of crap... that's all I want in a salesperson. Having more knowledge than them about the car is actually a benefit in that they KNOW they can't rip you off... and in my experience you're treated better as a result.

I see where you are coming from, I was just a bit hot headed from earlier. And it wasn't fair for me to go off on him for what another dealer did or his actions, I understand that.

Sorry to all about the ranting... I'm cooled down for the most part. Back to happy Matthew :D .

With that attitude, I don't think I'd "want" to help you (even if I could) Count me out of here. I truly had no intention of giving you people a "sales pitch" but rather would of "liked" possibly to have learned about the car and discuss various issues that "maybe" I could of helped with, and hey, maybe even make a friend or two. That said, I honestly feel I'm in the wrong forum because I refuse to let "anybody" treat me like a jerk because I "try" to earn a living in car sales. Granted there are some bad salespeople out there, but I don't consider myself one of them in any way shape or form. I have NEVER screwed anybody, and I take pride in my service "after" sale. It's what keeps them coming back to see me. I won't kiss anybody's butt, and I certainly won't accept any insult from anybody in here just because they are more knowledgable about a product I happen to sell. At least I'm open enough to admit that I don't know it all. People like you unfortunately will always be the sales consultants nightmare. You must be a joy to live with. Take care hot-shot.
PS: You are probably clueless to what my signature at the bottom means.

Listen, listen... I am sure Strider didn't really mean whatever he said. He probably had a bad experience with another salesman and he was venting a little (I think we are all guilty of that at one time or another). Anyway, I for one, would like to welcome you to the forum and extend an appology for any rude comments. The facgt that you sell the car should not matter. Anyone who has a love for this car or a interest in learning about it is welcome.

That said, Welcome to the forums man!!! :)

Welcome to the forum, 2buyCme!

Before you get too upset over some of the comments in this thread, you may want to re-read your first response. You asked if anyone had questions and that you would either answer them or find the answers. Then, when the questions came up, your response was "are you serious?" I believe most of the poeple in this forum ARE serious when it comes to the RX-8, or they wouldn't be here.

BTW, we still haven't seen any answers to their questions. If you don't know, just say so. There are still a LOT of unanswered questions from Mazda as the car is not even in production in most areas. All we want is an honest answer.

In defense of 2buycme it's almost impossible to get any information out of Mazda regarding upcoming models. They send us information from time to time, but it's stuff I already know. In a couple of months they'll probably send us to what they call a zoom zone, which is where they take us out to a big parking lot, set up 2 or 3 autocross style tracks, let us beat the crap out of the cars (very fun!!), and bring in beancounters to tell us inaccurate information about the cars. 9 times out of 10 I end up correcting the instructors at these events regarding technical information. At the Mazdaspeed zoom zone I attended I had one instructors got so sick of being corrected he had me teach the class about the car. Then there is never anyone there that can answer the questions I have about the car, and i end up having to refer to the internet. almost all the information I relay to customers is info I've found on this forum, rotarynews, or from other sites i've stumbled across. Please take this into consideration before you start trashing a salesman for being misinformed about a car he's selling.

This is the first I have heard about a "Zoom Zone". What makes you think Mazda will do this with us? Have you pre-ordered another car from them before?

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I also sell mazdas, and was trying to explain why 2buycme might have been in shock by the questions he received. the zoom zone is an event for employee's of mazda dealerships to become familiar with the cars.

I'll try to help him out a little, I know the port for the east coast is Jacksonville, FL. I'm not sure exactly how long it takes the ship to come from Japan to here, but on our inventory reports it will typically show the car listed "on water" roughly 2 weeks, before they show them listed as "port-jx"

I would assume the West coast port is somewhere in southern CA, but thats just a guess, It would probably take a few less days to make it to Cali, than it does to FL, so the west coast may get their cars a couple days earlier. Of course this is just a guess.

I haven't had a chance to see the car in person just yet, I'll be going to the Dealer Pre-show for the Atlanta auto show in a little over a week, I'll try to get some info on the lights for you, assuming the car is there, the rumor is that it will be there, but nothing official yet. I used to work at a dealer that also sold Saabs, which had the same lights under the mirror, Those particular Lights were quite effective.

I do feel bad for snapping, yesterday wasn't a good day for me and with the events that happened with one dealer I was hot-headed and had get out some stress(although I had no right to go off on you). I apologize for the comments.

I'm sure that you are a good person and welcome you to the site. I do appreciate having sales people around to answer questions that we may have, and a chance to represent in the buyers opinions.

Hope that you, and everyone else accepts my apology-

Strider- Ditto that.

But I didn't criticise, I just mentioned what *I* look for in a dealer. And already this guy is poking fun. Nobody mentioned YOUR name, nobody mentioned what YOU did.

You say you had no intention of giving a sales pitch which is false and you know it... there's no other reason you would have given yourself the name "2BuyCMe" or "to buy, see me". I'm sure that has nothing to do with getting a bit of business. I simply mentioned the fact that there are no dealers allowed to make sales on this forum, that's all.

I have never insulted a dealer when I have more knowledge about the car than them. It's nothing to be insulting about. Most dealers appreciate the fact that I've gone and done all my homework on the car, and when I'm spending upwards of 30 grand you better damn well believe I'm going to be educated about it.

For you to say that you wouldn't deal like people like "me" , you know, the people that actually KNOW something before they come in, instead of letting you fill in the blanks, just shows me what kind of salesperson you are.

You've already started a war of words and thus I'll stop it. Name calling, criticism, and your big EGO have already been shown. If you'd like to contribute by answering questions and even asking them we are more than happy to have you here. When nobody makes any comment directed to you however, please keep your mouth shut or do us all a favor, and stay at the dealer selling to your uninformed customers.

Welcome to the forum 2Buy and Justin. You guys are more than welcome to hang with us and glean as much info as you can, as we have become THE source on the RX-8, and it only helps your careers(So we brag a little). We have no problem with your visits whatsoever, especially when we get posts by potential buyers complaining about clueless salespeople and your completely justified attempts to kill off the stigma. It's the nature of being stereo-typed a sales associate. I commend you on doing your homework! It shows you take initiative, have passion for the product, and strive for knowledge on the vehicles you sell. It's going to be a BIG spring/summer for Mazda product-wise. If I was in sales and preparing for a home-run hit car debut I'd do the same, and likely forum members may eventually purchase from you. More power to you both! Every well-informed person researches on the web before purchasing anyhow. I'd guestimate only 1/3th of the visitors here actually are posting members so keep that in mind.

That being said this privately-owned forum is created for objective consumers and enthusiasts and is in no way connected with Mazda or it's entities. No dealer advertising or unsolicited spam is allowed in forum posts. Mazda has its own websites to "build your own car" and select a dealer for e-mail follow-up. It's not ethical to use another's site investment $$ to furthur one's own objectives, even if you have a "blow-out $500 under factory invoice sale" to pitch, so I'll assume you understand that as a given. We've pondered creating a dealer forum many times but came to the same conclusion.

I do have a suggestion 2BuyCme. How about re-signing up under a different name? 2BuyCme leaves a bad taste in many of our mouths, like a lawyer signing up as ISue4U. ;)

Again welcome! We don't bite and you'll soon get to know the regulars and you'll likely find info before any of your competition does. :D

PM me if you have any concerns or questions.

Not that I'm sure of the exact location, but last feb. when I bought my new Protegé5 I heard that they come in somewhere from Texas along the Gulf of Mexico... If know one, here, has the answer, I can ask my dealer for the answer, next week.
