My dipstick, with its angled tip, seems to scrape the inside of the tube as I remove it and push it back in. I noticed that it shows some scrape marks on the end from the contact with inside of the tube. Is this a problem?

It seems like the little bits of material that are scraping off could be circulating in the engine...not good. Maybe the oil filter would catch any of this material, but it still concerns me. Does anyone else notice their dipstick tip is scraping?

Mine does. I don't think it's bad. But I'm no expert.

I would just be cautious when checking your oil. Mine does it a little bit, but i pull teh stick out carefully so it does not really do it.

Seems to me, I have mine in upside down. (the finger-pull loops toward the centerline of the car)

Yeah, I'm one of those who insists on removing the engine cover to check the oil, but the dipstick can then pull straight out without interfering with hoses, etc.

I'm very gentle while sliding my dipstick in and out. In fact, I usually have a glass of scotch before using my dipstick so I can ensure proper operation on my part. My wife even agrees it's better that way.

Oops.... it's a lot easier to check to oil with the engine cover removed...

My dipstick comes out without scraping if I take the cover off first.

D'oh....
