Checked out the RX-8 at the Toronto Auto Show. Gorgeous. Looks really good in the flesh. The curves, the interior, all extremely nice. In some pictures, the styling can look slightly awkward (with the elongated roof line) but in real life, it just looked damn good. All of those of you who have RX-8's on order are very lucky ba$tards! :D
But I just can't swing the price (even though at $36k and change, it is the deal of the century). Not at this point in my life, anyway. Maybe in a few years once my girlfriend starts working (she's in school* now) and we're more financially stable. While RWD, rotary engines, and 6-speed transmissions are the stuff of dreams, getting out of our 400 sq. ft. bachelor apartment is important too, so moving into a house (or at least moving to a larger apartment) is on the horizon. I don't want to jeopardize my financial future (I'm only 24) by getting too much in debt with an expensive new car. Hey, I made a grown-up decision! That sucked!

Anyway, I still need 4 doors and a little zing in my ride (I can't give up everything for secure future, after all) so my short short list includes the redesigned 2003 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS** ($27k), a used 2000-2001 Impreza 2.5RS ($20-22k) , a used 2001 Mazda MP3 (~$20k), a Nissan Sentra Spec V ($22-25k), or most likely out of all my possibilities, a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege in Spicey Orange ($27k).
Naturally, even though I won't be going for an RX-8, I'll still be hanging around here to live vicariously through you all as your cars get delivered! :D

*University, not highschool, you perverts! ;) She's doing her masters in Speech language pathology with a double major in Neuroscience. Soon enough she'll be making the big bucks. :)

**I really dig the redesigned front/rear ends. Looks better in person (at the autoshow) then in pictures. The seats were really good, just about perfect for my slight frame. Going to try to go for a test drive.

:( alas, it's the right thing to do... but (me personally) i'd look into the used car market, and just save my pennies for that RX-8... was i out of school and had a wicked job like you ;)

heh heh, hope the MS Protege is everything you and your other-half will need for a little while...

:D living vicariously is all that i have too!! :o!! we MUST be twins!! or at least distant cousins... ;)

Ah yes, also forgot to mention I'm looking at used Contour SVT's too ($15-18k).
Wicked job? It's alright. Could pay better. My faberge egg habit is expensive. :D
Twins, most likely. This is a picture of me at work. Scarily similar to your avater, wakeech.
Seperated at birth? Do you have webbed toes and a tail too? :D ;)

Hey, I made a grown-up decision! That sucked!

i remember when i made my first one of those. sold my '65 mustang, that ihad spent several years and many dollars rebuilding and restoring, and bought a nice responsible, reliable easy on the gas honda accord.still hate that i did it but it really was the right thing to do. welcome to the world of adulthood grimace. the decisions get a little easier to make after that first big one.:D

The first grown up decision I ever made was to get married (5 years ago, in my early 30's). Haven't had to make a decision since...;)

NO ONE else in my family is. I finally had to admit I was keeping the relationship together, just to keep the relationship together. Not because the relationship was positive. I had to stop worriing what my parents would think.

Save Grimace, Save. You DESERVE a new RX-8 as much as I do. I've been reading your posts for a long time and you should get one. Sell everything and get one. C'mon, c'mon arreddy!!

Ok, everyone send $5 to:
Save the Grimace Fund
123 Fake Street
Springfield

:)

No, my mind is made up (unless that Grimace Fund actually works!) I need a reliable car right away. Even if I replaced my beater with another cheap beater, it would still be a few years to save enough for an 8. Not a viable option with the amount of driving I do.
Besides, I have to wait until after the first year of production to make sure all the bugs get worked out, right? ;)
