I'm gonna get pelted for suggesting this....and please understand that I have no bad feelings towards any posts in the lounge area....but my question is: do we need a lounge??

I come here for RX8 info....the lounge posts are really cluttering
up the "view new posts" quick search link.

Maybe we can keep the lounge, but remove it from the "view new post" search??????

Since I post on the lounge from time to time, I feel I should speak up on this matter. Regardless of your feelings towards the quality of posts in the lounge, it does serve a useful function on this Forum.

"What is that?", you may ask? Well, The lounge is what binds this forum into a community. RX8club.com is not JUST a message board about the rx-8. Sure, there are alot of knowledgeable posters providing info on the RX-8, vendor inputs, problem reports, etc.. However, the people on this forum know eachother on a somewhat personal level as well.

This extra interaction fosters an atmosphere that keeps people coming back for discussions. Without this, people would only log on when looking for an answer to a particular question or to report a specific problem.

That being said.. I can understand how the quantity of posts may be distracting if you're looking for new posts, and only log on once a day or so. Maybe there could be a filter function that you set in your profile to filter out lounge posts in the "new posts" search. However, it would be a disservice to a large part of the community to do this wholesale.

In the meantime, you can just go into the particular forum you're interested in and look at the threads there. The new posts tend to be at the top. Isn't it funny how that works?

Great to have you, and others like you as members. However, please don't disparage the lounge.

YOu can also just go the area with threads that interest you. It is a couple clicks more than using the new posts button, but is it THAT much of an inconvenice to you that a large group of people would have to lose a good community meeting place?

Hey , to all you lounge posters.. i think this thread counts to our total posts ;)

On a constructive side.. I think personal filters would be nifty.. I don't know if the framework of this board has provisions for that.. then again, it is just written in php.

the lounge is the only place we can go to vent,or share things that is going on in our lives besides the 8. the 8 is why we are all on this forum but i think the lounge keeps us here when we should be working. if we could only discuss pro's and con's on the 8 you would spent maybe an hour a day on this forum .and would not get to know the people i have meet since joining this commiunity of friends.so if you get abollish the lounge you destroy the forum & community

We'll close the lounge only when new posters learn to use the !@#$%^& search function so I don't have to constantly see new posts on OLD, TIRED subjects like gas mileage, flooding, funny noises when the clutch is disengaged, etc. etc. ad nauseam. The lounge is becoming the only place that intelligent discussions occur!

I'm backing you up 100% on this idea. I'm starting to avoid this forum because of the very low 'signal to noise' ratio lately, thanks to some decerebrated people whose only contribution to this otherwise good forum is to start pointless discussions on childish, ridiculous, useless topics.
I'm sure there are forum more dedicated to these topics, like teenager forums, post-lobotomia forums, sex forums...

Removing it from "view new post" would be a good start, and a necessary measure.

I mean really, Mr. 28 posts, this is a community, sure most of us own Rx-8's but that's not the only damn thing we can converse on. Do you and your friends talk about only one thing.
Why should everyone conform to what you wish with all your 28 posts, which I'm sure all contain useful information, because you lack the motivation to search for that which you are looking, or to just pass those posts that don't interest you.
How hard is it when you see a thread that says
"My cat is suffering from scurvy, should I wrap his head in lime?" to just skip over it.

Besides, meowlowd, guy321, d menac, hotpot, simplyblue and many of the other slackers keep me entertained at work when it's slow.
Not to mention, I know certain people are not that far away, if there are any meets I can avoid the crazies.
If there is a wasp in the room, wouldn't you be more comfortable knowing where it is?

Yes, Thank you porschegeorg for taking us with 'a grain of salt'. In lieu of berrating writers of the Lounge, such as IKnowNot'ing did. On top of that, IKnowNot'ing categorized and discriminated (by age, education, etc.) members of this forum. So sad.

That's what I'd consider a good signal to noise ratio!
