I just moved into a new apartment, although everything isn't set up yet.. it seems a bit sterile. what can i do to make it more homely, yet not too flashy, effeminate, or gaudy.

Congrats Guy.
Best advice I can give you is get a woman to live with you. She'll take care of homelying your appartment.

You need a cat to domesticate your abode! :D

Then it will just be an empty apartment with a cat and a litter box ;)

Well, the kitty lowers blood pressure and eases anxiety (medically proven). It will be easier for you to feel more at home, thus expressing outwardly through decorating.
Or translation: Just get a cat darnit. It will make sense later. If it doesn't, I didn't tell you to get the cat! LOL

add some plants , few paintings, something to give it color but avoid letting the woman decorcate it may become too frilly.decorate the way you want now because when you get married it's all over .i have 1 room in the house that is mine. she has no input on what i do to that room

First she tells you that you're happy and then she gives you one room to "live" in.. Yeah I want to get married now!!
