View Full Version : Wow mozilla ROCKS... Hercules 02-23-2003, 12:20 AM I think I'm a convert... it loads pages so much faster :) wakeech 02-23-2003, 12:30 AM i feel like such a computer yuppie... Explorer 5.2, for Mac OSX... :o Salo 02-23-2003, 01:20 AM Originally posted by wakeech i feel like such a computer yuppie... Explorer 5.2, for Mac OSX... :o You can try Safari -- Click Here (http://www.apple.com/safari/) RX-3_13B_Tommo 02-23-2003, 02:03 AM iMac G4 w/ EE5 and Safari. Digisan 02-23-2003, 03:28 AM I use Opera, it is the fastest and most customizable, try it.... Makes IE look like do-do. Mozilla is cool though, I have that loaded on my Mandrake box. Rob wakeech 02-23-2003, 11:11 AM Originally posted by Salo You can try Safari -- Click Here (http://www.apple.com/safari/) yeah, my techhead bro said to "try [insert jungle word here]", i couldn't remember what it was called... but apperently it's just ugly or something, i dunno ;) thanks Salo. you're a pal. :D Salo 02-23-2003, 11:22 AM Originally posted by wakeech but apperently it's just ugly or something, i dunno ;) It's not that bad. The brushed metal interface is kinda fugly but I got used to it - so others must be able to do the same. It is super fast, which in my book makes up for any aesthetic short-commings. Plus I'm sure that Apple will change the interface since so many critics have complained about it. wakeech 02-23-2003, 11:49 AM damned straight it's fast!! OMG!! thanks for the link... try: www.unsanity.com apparently you can set up your OSX to have a skin, and with the right hack Safari will wear it too.... you need HackZ "application enhancer", and the "metaphalize/demetaphalize" plug-in... (i dunno if any of the spelling is right, 'cause he's just saying these things to me...??) Salo 02-23-2003, 10:20 PM Originally posted by wakeech try: www.unsanity.com Mr. Keech, Thanks for the tip. rotarynews.com 02-24-2003, 11:10 AM I've been using Mozilla since the early Milestones... I worked for a Netscape VAR before they were aquired by AOL. Anyhow, I find Mozilla to be far far far more customizable than anything else, since I can actually get to the source code, modify, and tune it to my needs. Just an example: I use the back function on the right-click menu popup. However, depending on what you click over, the content of the menu would change. I wanted the back menu option to always be the top most choice, so I hacked the XUL to always have the back option on top. And, yes Mozilla is faster than IE. And Mozilla on Linux is faster still. Proof? go to http://www.toast.net/performance/ Run the tests with the browsers. At work I have two identical Compaq's, one running Win2k, the other running Redhat 8, plugged into the same switch. Average throughput Win2k with IE6: 1530K Win2k with Moz1.3b: 1772K Linux with Konqueror: 2169K Linux with Moz1.3b: 2266K I invite all of you to try the tests, and post your results. And don't forget to average, I did it over 3 trys, clearing cache after each try. You can download Mozilla from http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ -- PostScript: I'd love to try that new browser on the Mac, but I think it's based on Konqueror, which is why I included those results. inittab 02-24-2003, 11:47 AM Originally posted by rotarynews.com And Mozilla on Linux is faster still. Yes it is! Been using it for a very long time. :D My browser of choice is Galeon. It uses the Mozilla Gecko engine and it's very fast and pretty much bug-free. :) Digisan 02-24-2003, 03:08 PM Here are my results IE 6: 2995K Mozilla 1.3b: 3033K Opera 7.01: 3112K Opera wins, but they are close, and well Opera is a much nicer browser too. Tested on a Dual Athlon 1800 w/ 1gig of PC2100 Ram, running WinXP SP1. I don't have linux loaded on this box and it wouldn't be fair to compare the duallie to the DEC Alpha or the Athlon 1.4 I have on hand running Redhat and Mandrake respectively. Rob rotarynews.com 02-24-2003, 03:23 PM The first time I ran the test on toast.net was back in 1999, with a early milestone of mozilla. What's funny is my linux box was a P133 with 128 megs of ram. The windows box was a PII 233. The linux box won. Good to hear about Opera, there are many things in Opera that Mozilla 'borrowed'. I'll stick with Mozilla, since I can open the source, (try to make it faster?) But you don't stop using Opera. Competition is good. Digisan 02-24-2003, 08:10 PM I use Mozilla on my Linux boxes though, I only own the Windows license for Opera :) Rob MPester 02-24-2003, 10:03 PM Hey, am I the only Nescape user here? How does Nescape compare? Hercules 02-24-2003, 10:17 PM Originally posted by MPester Hey, am I the only Nescape user here? How does Nescape compare? Netscape is built off of Mozilla :) |
