Truth be told of course, well you know, it's kind of PC... smthg to satisfy everyone. Still interesting data, esp. for those thinking of a car purchase

Interesting that they estimated the 5-yr mnx/repair costs at only ~$3500 for the RX8. The only vehicle with a lower estimate was the CRV w/ ~$3300.

 

lol, its fuel costs are higher than a toyota highlander!

 

and btw, these aren't the 25 cheapest cars to own, they are the cheapest cars to own for 25 different categories. enormous difference.

I found this on the Edmunds website which analyzes true cost of ownership for various cars. You can even do a comparison of the 8 with Nissan Z, etc. The RX-8 is rated at $0.53 per mile.

I suspect for those of us with free 4 year maintenance it is less than that for obvious reasons.

 

how much extra did you pay for 4 year free maintenance?

 

Us early buyers that kept our RX-8's when Mazda de-rated the HP figures got 4yr / 48,000 mi free scheduled maintenance.

 

Those with full maintenance most likely paid more for their cars since the discounts were small or did not exist when the car just came out. So, I don't see a cost advantage there.
