View Full Version : Commercials
The Jagannatha 02-19-2003, 08:02 PM Has anyone seen any RX-8 commercials? The only thing I've seen is some for the 6. I mean how does Mazda expect to sell any cars if nobody knows about it? I live on Ohio by the way, perhaps it isn't a high profile area.
P00Man 02-19-2003, 08:08 PM lol.
anyway, i think that they just havent released any commercials. Certainly i havent seen any here in NJ.

Probably will be no commercials till the X-2 Movie launch. When the new X-Men movie comes out (featuring the Special X-2 Edition RX-8) they will most likely begin television spots advertising both. At that time these forums will be flooded, and dealers will be charging 10K over sticker for the car.
P00Man 02-19-2003, 08:12 PM charging over the sticker would never fly, Mazda is already cracking down on dealers threatening that...or at least they claim to be.

Derek 02-19-2003, 09:05 PM Supposedly the Speed Channel is airing commercials regarding the Renesis engine. Although I have watched the Speed Channel since I heard that and have yet to see a single commercial. The RX-8 commercials are supposed to start right before the cars hit the showroom.
Elara 02-19-2003, 09:08 PM Mazda's currently concentrating on promoting the 6- since they hope to sell quite a few more of them than the RX-8, it makes sense. I bet we start seeing a lot around May, like Cylo said, when XMen 2 hits the screen.

The Jagannatha 02-20-2003, 09:13 AM I can see why Mazda would have em start the commercials after the movie, but what bugs me is why they would Priorititize the 6 over the RX-8. I mean the rebirth of the Rotary is a big thing.
DrKillJoY 02-20-2003, 09:22 AM as far as advertising goes... its like this...
there is no product ... even once the car hits the US shores.. there will not be enough to go around for several months for them to worry about a big marketing push... you will see more buzz as summer comes (note : I believe MNAO fiscal year begins in May) however that buzz will be underscored by the fact that you can't just go down and pickup an RX-8 as an impulse buy.. .for nearly the first 6 months you will have to order this car, or buy what just happens to have not gotten bought by someone who preordered...
this is how i understand it from rather reliable internal sources.
I hope this helps..

yeah, but the rebirth of their bread-and-butter money maker midsize sedan is even bigger.... it's all about the benjamins you know ;)

unfortunately not as big as their need to sell gobs of mazda6's. they need to sell them in order to pay the bills and increase thir US market share. like zoomzoomh said "bread and butter". time enough later, after the rx8's are driving around and some are on the lots for the big rotary marketing push.
Kurt Bob 02-21-2003, 09:01 PM Be patient!
If you haven't seen it yet, Speed Channel has been showing a way cool commercial touting all the Mazda racing successes (such as IMSA and Le Mans) that happened "without ever dropping a valve or burning a piston..." something like that.
What they seem to be doing is first reeducating the public about the rotary engine...the average "joe" needs to be educated about how great the engines really are.
I can't wait for more of these!
91vert 02-21-2003, 09:05 PM Actually I saw a commercial at lunchtime today about the X-2 movie and there were a couple of quick shots of the car. The commercial was not for the movie itself, but it was for something pertaining to the movie. I was in a restaurant sitting far enough away from the TV hanging from the ceiling that I could not hear it.
