I just saw the commercial for this DVD. Supposedly there is a some preview/behind the scenes footage of X-Men 2 on it. In the commercial there was an extremely brief (blink and you'll miss it) shot of the RX-8, so I'm thinking there might be some good footage of the X2 car. Has anyone seen this yet? I'll probably rent it this weekend and report back...

I already have the original X-Men DVD (thought it was a terrific movie -way better than Spidey or DD). Is the 1.5 worth buying (BTW I couldn't care less about seeing the RX-8 in it)?

i have read the comic since about 1973 and i thought the movie was pretty good. as superhero movies go it is one of the best. i like the way they handled wolverine although he should have not got his ass handed to him buy mystique as he did at first. i just watch it again on monday after having see DD over the weekend. my opinion is that (although i didn't think so when leaving the theater from DD) the X movie was better than DD but not as good as Spider-Man. of course i have some issues with the Spidey movie (such as using MJ instead of Gwen especially for the bridge) comprimises are always made for movies. the first Batman(which i watched again on sat or sun) is still the best of the bunch. Jack as the Joker was just perfect. DD was good but i thought the fight scenes were to shot to close in , to dark and edited to choppy. Bullseye says he wants a costume but then just gets a new trench coat and why should the Kingpin learn his true identity on the first meeting.
so i sound to much like a geek now so i'll shut up:o

I've been reading X-Men for a long time also (20+ years and reprints from the very beginning) as well as Excalibur, New Mutants etc. I have lost touch with the comics somewhat over the last 5 years or so - marriage does that to you ;). I thought the movie was very faithful to the spirit of the comics and thought the interplay between Charles and Eric was terrific.

Spidey was great in most respects (Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe were excellent choices). But Kirsten dunst as MJ was horrible - completely flat and uninvolving for this incredibly vivacious character (the Spidey cartoon has a more believable MJ) and this ruined it for me a little.

DD could have been great but the whole ethos of Matt was thrown out of the window. In the comics he believes in the law so much that he is often 'defending' the bad-guys from other more aggressive heroes - he would never become judge/jury/executioner. In the movie he is more akin to the Punisher than any kind of DD I've read about. On top of which the movie had many other problems (acting, dialogue, some effects - the radar sense was nicely done however). The highlights for me were Foggy Nelson (perfect) and Bullseye (beautifully over the top). A reasonable action movie if you don't compare it to the comics.

My favourite 'superhero' movie of all time: The Rocketeer. Flawless for it's setting and time period (USA just before WW2).

oh yes the Rocketeer is definetly one of the best!

There is one scene in the Rocketeer where he is standing in front of the Washington monument and it's flags before taking off that sticks in my mind. A far more 'heroic' and 'patriotic' pose than anything in Superman etc. A good family film in the spirit of Indiana Jones (battling pre-war nazis led by Timothy Dalton on US soil) for those that haven't seen it.

But back to my question - is X-Men 1.5 worth buying if I already have the original DVD?
