Here is the latest from the dealer. ZoomZoom and I are once again going to assault our dealer for the full scoop in writing, but until then, here is how the packages break down, and bear in mind that as per the Product Information Bulliten previously posted by ZoomZoom, you can only add these packages to the GT trim level.

GS (either power train configuration): $36, 795.00

GT (either power train configuration): $39, 595.00

GT Options:

Moonroof: $ 1,000.00

Nav*: $ 3,000.00

* The Nav system is only available packaged with the moonroof! So, for a moonroof only car, you're lookin' at $40,595, and a nav car (which must also have the moonroof) will be $43,595.00. (Really, then. its NAV+MOONROOF = $4,000.00).

Hope that's clear!
:D

From the dealer package entitled "2004 RX8", and dated 17th of February, 2003 (it's 10 pages long, has all the model codes, specs, and colours, and the caveat "Information contained herein is subject to change without notic (sic)", there is NO NORDIC GREEN LISTED, and therefore no product code for it.

Also, the LSD IS available and included for the GS model, but only if you choose the manual transmission/high power option.

I would scan this thing, but my scanner is down...

Horsepowers have no "provisional" or "TBD" beside them, and are listed as 210 for the low power, and 250 for the high power. Curb (sic) weight is also listed as follows: "4 AT - 1,384kg / 6 MT 1,365.8 kg TBD". Intereseting that they would include the decimal if it is still TBD, eh?

Also: "Headlight Cleaner" is listed as standard for both models. We get the pissers!!!

omg.... i think that IS awfully interesting about the vehicle mass...

Auto @ 1384 kg = 3051 lbs.

Manual @ 1365.8 kg = 3011.0 lbs....

well, that IS awfully well equipped... on a stripper Yank sport model (hi power, cloth, and nothin' but a LSD), the base weight probably tips in just under 3k lbs...

Seriously? LSD is included in the manual GS? That was my *biggest* peev on the packaging. Xenon would be nice as well, but LSD is essential. Sweet! :D

Decisions, decisions...

looks like i'm gonna have to go all out for 40595

And finally, page 10 :D

Note that all colours except black are metallic, and therefore cost $105 more. Freight, PDI, air conditioning tax, admin, and the aformentioned metallic paint total $1400 even, although this will vary slightly by dealer wrt the admin cost, even though they all claim that such cost is the same from dealership to dealership.

So, for our American friends, a fully loaded GT with Nav would cost you $51,744.25, including tax, or about $33,300 U.S. Not such a great deal now, eh?

So I can get the GS model for 36,795.00 and that includes LSD if I choose the high power engine? Duh, of course! :) The Xenon and DSC would be nice but not for the extra $3,000.. The base car is looking nicer every minute.

According to the mileage claims of 12.8/city and 9.2 highway, the 8 will result in approx 18.5/25 US MPG. A couple of MPG better than what was rumored earlier (14/10), and promising considering I find Transport Canada ratings to be on the low'ish side. Curious that the auto tranny does even better on the highway with 8.8l/100km.

Well, the GT without NAV is $39,595. Add $1400 freight and "crap" (most of that is freight; also, federal A/C tax, metallic paint (!), PDI) and you come to $40,995. Add provincial tax of (in Ontario) 8%, and federal of 7%, (15% total) and you've got $47,144. That's $30, 415 U.S., give or take.

If you want NAV, add $4,000 to the pre-tax amount, then add the 15% tax, and you come up with the number I quoted before. :)

It went $654 over your limit and it is automatically "out"?

02-25-2003, 10:57 AM
yeah, dude, you could save JUUUUUUUUUUST a LIIIIIIITTLE longer, and you wouldn't have to worry about it, bumping your limit up just a wee bit more, eh?? i don't want to see anyone not get what they want... especially if they want rotary power ;)

haha no i still need my dad's permission. and for him anything over 40k is just too much :( i probably wont be able to take a grand or 2 off from the dealer since its such a hot car... can i?

wakeech
02-25-2003, 04:41 PM
uh, no... not unless you're trading something in, which i'm guessing you aren't... dammit dude!! that sucks!!

... well, just try your best to convince him of the unbelievable deal this car is (because it IS), and that it'll really retain value well (look at the FD for proof of that... not to mention Canada's only getting 700 on the first run!! :O!!)... hmmm...
but y'know $500 over, $500 under... what's a thousand bucks between father and son, eh?? ;)

dying_here
02-25-2003, 06:32 PM
haha yeh i need to do some hardcore convincing how its a good value as compare to something else :P but i definitly wont be putting myself on the pre-order list.. my dad doesnt like the idea of buying a car before actually test driving it and paying 40k just to wait weeks and months for a car.
since we taking pros and cons, as im trying to prepare my case. wat is the advantage of a rotary engine over let say a v6??

dying_here
02-25-2003, 06:33 PM
oh yeh and wats the price drop for an Rx-7 :P need a rough number to show him how the car will retain its value

actually my original budget is about 28k nish ( so i was thinking of a Premium RSX or 03 Accord coupe ( non-v6) or a 03' Tiburon tuscani etc) but now that i see the RX-8 and wat it has to offer at a price of 36k im very tempted.. im basically beyond my limits.. but 40k is definitly going to be a problem :P

Go for the tiburon. You cannot get a better deal for that price, wait to drive a more expensive car when you are the head developer of a small software company like me :D.

The RX-7 is rated in Kellys Blue Book at just under $20k, with a retail price in 1995 of ~$34k. The value in KBB is generally low, so the RX-7 has done rather well for a ten year old car.
