View Full Version : Snow sucks. Hercules 02-17-2003, 03:24 PM http://www.mazdaworld.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=1006&st=0& chenpin 02-17-2003, 03:30 PM gee, that makes me thankful i live in cali. isn't there some way to move snow without using the shovel? Hercules 02-17-2003, 03:36 PM Snowblower.. but really smart of us... we don't have one. Sad thing is though that of all the houses on our block, we need it the most. We have a parking lot for a driveway :\ chenpin 02-17-2003, 04:27 PM its really interesting to note that for most of us in socal, snow is just entertainment (i.e. ski, etc.). For people elsewhere, its a pain in the ass part of life. herc, ur driveway is like a parking lot? so u do ur mini stunts on it? cueball 02-17-2003, 06:06 PM I am getting hit by that same storm as we speak and it really does SUCK. I have snow drifts 3+ feet at the edges of my driveway from this and previous storms. quicks8 02-17-2003, 06:20 PM Dude all I can say is: I'm in Ohio and I drive a Miata. It has been 2 years since we have seen snow like this. I sold my 4x4 when I moved here from Michigan and thought BAAAHHH 3" big deal that's nothing, but when you are talking 3" upon 3" upon 3" inches because they don't plan well and run out of salt and don't know how to effectively keep their roadways clean, even that much snow is a pain, not to mention try to plow a Miata through it. Hercules 02-17-2003, 06:34 PM Originally posted by chenpin its really interesting to note that for most of us in socal, snow is just entertainment (i.e. ski, etc.). Yea I have been known to nip the handbrake coming around down the driveway on my way to the garage :p Zio 02-17-2003, 06:54 PM Snow rocks :) cueball 02-17-2003, 06:56 PM Originally posted by Zio Snow rocks :) Do you live in an area where you get tons of it or do you just like skiing in it. You could be like my friend who is a hardcore boarder and loves snow even though he knows he will have to shovel it. Salo 02-17-2003, 07:16 PM I love snow. I love skiing and snowboarding and I even love shoveling. I spent a couple of years living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where the annual snowfall is around 200" and thoroughly enjoyed every winter. Schooling and employment, however, has taken me away from my snow paradise... bwayout 02-17-2003, 07:39 PM I grew up in Detroit Michigan (Chicago would always get more of the brunt of a heavy snowstorm than we would. We would get 25 inches but they would get around 48 inches). Lived there for 25 years, than lived in sunny Southern California for over 19 years and now, I'm in Texas ... I miss the change of seasons and the snow - BUT during times like this ... I'm glad I don't have to shovel any driveways or let the car warm up first before I have to drive anywhere ... But hey, thanks for the pictures! I do miss the "time to say at home" snow days... ;) wakeech 02-17-2003, 08:10 PM i suppose that it's not quite so bad in areas where the infrastructure is in place and people are used to dealing with it, but in Timmins Ontairo (birthplace and childhood home of Shania Twain, and not much else... oh wait, they've got a mine) where i lived for the 6 months of winter one grim year in the early 90's (can't remember which one...) we got well over four feet of snow... heh heh, it's great when you're a kid: a ten foot high pile of snow in the front yard (from the driveway) to make a fort/sledding hill combo thingy :D Oh, Canada... Quick_lude 02-17-2003, 10:00 PM Yup, we're getting some of that snow here in Toronto but not as much.. Herc, man buy a snowblower! I got one for my parents this Christmas and would never go back to the shovel.. Foggetaboutdit.. :p 73JPS 02-17-2003, 10:20 PM Originally posted by wakeech ...but in Timmins Ontairo (birthplace and childhood home of Shania Twain, and not much else... oh wait, they've got a mine) where i lived for the 6 months of winter one grim year in the early 90's (can't remember which one...) we got well over four feet of snow... Y'see, that's why we always used to call the place Grimmins:D Hercules 02-17-2003, 11:04 PM Originally posted by Quick_lude Yup, we're getting some of that snow here in Toronto but not as much.. Herc, man buy a snowblower! Foggetaboutdit.. :p After 6 hours of shoveling with 4 people, we cleared out enough room to get my uncle's beat up van out and enough to get out of the driveway. Tomorrow morning we will be buying a snowblower from Sears. m477 02-18-2003, 08:01 AM Wow, that sucks. It hasn't snowed anywhere near that bad in Michigan since the first week of 1998. Generally, we don't get tons of snow here, but it snows 1/2 inch like every other day so most cars are covered with a film of white salt crud the whole winter. Yuck. Anyone know of any good-paying Unix programmer jobs in CA? :p Y&Y 02-18-2003, 04:23 PM Once you move to cali you'll miss your pure white unadulterated snow. I've only witness snowfall a couple of times in my life so far and one of them being three years ago. It barely snows here in southern cali. I love driving on the icy road of the snowy mountains. Its fun to watch those people stupid enough to drive in the snow without chains. Watching them slide left and right. and seeing their expressions. Of course one of them almost hit me.:D m477 02-18-2003, 07:03 PM Originally posted by Y&Y I've only witness snowfall a couple of times in my life so far and one of them being three years ago. It barely snows here in southern cali. Boo hoo. Let me get out my violin... Seriously though, snow is cool when you're a little kid and you get days off school, but otherwise snow sucks ass. When I move out of the midwest, I'm not gonna miss now, I'm not gonna miss having my car be dirty as hell for 4 months out of every year, and I'm sure as hell not gonna miss single-digit wind chill temperatures. bwayout 02-18-2003, 07:24 PM ... no but you will miss the change of seasons! :( I know that I did and still do! Sputnik 02-19-2003, 07:05 AM Originally posted by bwayout ... no but you will miss the change of seasons! :( I know that I did and still do! No doubt. Cold winters and hot summers are alot easier to take when they aren't 9 frickin' months long. ---jps Quick_lude 02-19-2003, 01:14 PM Personally I like a change of season.. I can put up with a 4month winter, especially if it means having a white Christmas. It would be weird to have a sunny 20deg C day on Christmas eve.. |
