Hi all,

I know we can all get the brushed aluminium exhaust finishers, but I am thinking seriously about getting a mold made from the standard plastic parts, and getting carbon fibre parts made up. Anyone think that is a good idea or would be intersted?? I think it would be functional, with a subtle improved look.

I'm going to buy some new bits, as mine melted during 2 hours of dyno work the other day :(

Anyone want to Photoflop this for me?? I can't think of an easy way how...

It is just the "triangular" surround around the outlet.

Hows about a three pieces. The exhaust finishers, the side vents (saw the other thread) and the grill with a pre-made spot for a license recessed into it.

Beauty and solve a vexing plate dilemma - where to put the stupid thing (I know some don't use it but some have to!) :(

I would buy the exhaust finishers in CF.

I also want to see a piece for under the hood to replace the plastic piece at the front of the bay.

i would buy them too but the mold would cost you a pretty pennay!

I wouldn't be interested in the exhaust finishers as you couldn't see CF in that location unless you were very close.

without the mesh. The stock mesh vents hold so much water when washing it takes hours to dry them before pollishing. I would like to see them with more of a rear facing opening.

Yeah - they may not be ricey obvious, but I prefer a subtle look. However they are functional. I only thought of it when mine melted :(

As for water in the fender vents - after I wash the car I blow out the nooks and crannies with a air-duster gun on the end of my compressor's air hose :D

Which melted, and was it due to my exhaust. Good, valid questions - hope I can provide an acceptable answer.

The plastic bit I want to re-make in CF partially melted after running hard on the dyno for over an hour. This has not happened on normal power runs on the dyno. We were doing a lot of work testing and tuning. This same problem has been reported by others on the forum a while ago. On my car I have not replaced them yet, and the damage is only noticable when you look close up. The "outside" surfaces remained unaffected, so it still looks good.

The same thing would have happened with the std exhaust (that is one reason Mazda offer their exhaust finishers I suppose). There is not enough air flow at the back of the car when sitting on the chassis dyno to provide an adequate cooling layer between the tail pipes and the plastic trim.

None of the 4 RX-8's with the Hymee Exhaust experienced any problems of this nature on the recent Wakefield Park track day.
