Can anyone who sat in the RX8 comment on the rear visibility? Am I going to have to pray every time before I change lanes on the highway?

I am just busting on you revhappy :), I honestly don't know how the rear visibilty is.

my policy is... If your the fastest car on the road you don't have to worry about people sneaking up on you. So in that respect going faster is a safety precaution (try selling that the next time you get pulled over).:D

There are smaller windows in the market and you will soon get used to using the small rearview together with the window mirrors.

There is great visibility out the rear view mirror because of the wrap around rear glass. The worst aspect is checking your blind spot on your left side, the right side is easy to see through the window on the mini door. But if you sit far enough back, you can see out the mini window instead of the front door.

God i wish some company would put together something for dam blind spots. they already have rear distance detectors for backing up and merc has some type of front distance thingy. Why can't they make a side obstacle detector. Put two little lights on the dash. If they go on then somethings there.

We had a thread a while back discussing how to adjust your mirrors to eliminate most (if not all) of your blind spots. I detailed how to do this. Take a look here:

That's a great idea! The only problem that I see is that if people came to rely on the obstacle detectors and the electonics malfunctioned or blew up, there'd potentially be a lot of lawsuits. I'm not trying to knock it down, just spur some more brainstorming.... That would be really cool though....

You can try using the little Wide angle stick-on mirrors for your sideview mirrors. They are cheap, and work very well.

Or try turning your head to look. Take a half second to move your head where you can see sure beats sideswiping someone.

Most modern cars now incorporate the blind-spot mirror in the main wing mirror (confex mirror) but if not, as said above, just buy one of those small stick-ons. The trick is to learn to trust the mirror information (ie image transfer from blind-spot mirror to normal wing mirror).

If it bothers you that much then just don't change lanes. This would improve the mpg also!

I had the burden of reversing it into the showroom every night :(

Rear Vis is great better than the FD even the wrap around glass is greater than the FD so you great a greater scope.

I have no complaints :)

Please. You have nothing to worry about. You should suffer my rearview visibilty. It's like watching a Letterbox movie on a 13" TV. ;)

Maybe automotive designers should wake up and realize that car owners spend much more time looking out than gazing at the futuristic styling from the outside. In my opinion there is a really bad trend right now of reducing glass area for styling purposes. Poor visability in my opinion detracts from the driving experience. The 350Z and Audi TT are prime examples of this. They are like driving bathtubs. Both turned me off because of this.

You might be interested to know that Eaton has developed such a system for tractor-trailers. I don't think they've sold too many, though. Maybe once the patents run out, someone will adapt the technology to passenger vehicles...
