Thinking of buying a RX-8

Hello,

I just joined the board. I am seriously considering a RX-8 and thought I would look to some forums for advice. What has everyone experienced in regards to quality and durability of their cars? How satisfied are you with the car? If you could change one thing, what would that be?

I am looking at a 6-speed with minimal options. I have been very impressed with the handling and perfromance. The brakes seem first rate, the cornering and turn in are very responsive and the engine seems to perform quite will despite the lack of low speed torque. This will be a daily driver for me and with three kids they seem to fit in the back without problems.

Thanks

Keith

2 in back and 1 in front. My wife won't ride with me. Something about the way I drive. :D

Nothing but love here...

...on my end, Keith! From your post, it sounds like you've already discovered how "complete" a package the RX-8 is. This, for me, is what sold it over the 350Z and S2000...both of which I considered way before looking at the 8.

I have just gone over the 2000 mile mark and can report no problems what-so-ever. The initial build quality of the car is really first-rate IMO. The exterior fit and finish is at least on par with the 350Z/G35 Coupe. Inside, the 8 is layed out better and finished to a much higher degree than the Nissan or Honda. The car is amazingly adaptable to drive...push it and it gives you all you could ever want on a public road. It doesn't beat you up or fight against your inputs, it does what you want and goes where you point it. But, unlike the 350 or S2K, the 8 is very composed and "quiet" at lesser levels. It is more practicle, more adaptable and a better day-to-day driver than the other two.

If I could have one more thing, it would be more power. The Renesis feels like it has at least 20 horses left in it...it's so smooth and linear through it's range that the 9500 RPM redline seems like a joke!

I honestly couldn't be more satisfied in having bought the RX-8.

Arvin

My wife gets mad when I let my 9 y/o son ride in the front. No air bag defeat. She doesn't like to ride with me either, always using the "air brake."

As far as your questions:

Quality - excellent, everything works perfect after 10K miles
Durability - very good, couple of minor problems (oil pan, 2 minor recalls)
Satisfaction - very much
Change - more HP, although already changed that with CZ stage 1 :D :D

Go ahead and get it.
I've been lurking for two months and weighed all of the pros and cons.
I've looked at and driven, BMW, Honda, Infiniti, Mercedes and Nissan. The 8 won hands down. I bought mine today. I thought I would use the money that I didn't have to send Uncle Sam in the mail tonight.
I've only driven it 85 miles home and now I can't sleep.
I can't wait to drive it to work tommorrow.
Maybe I'll go in early??!
