RXhusker 02-13-2003, 04:30 PM It doesn't matter if its cool  -- it matters if people remember it and identify it with Mazda. I think it accomplishes that goal and using "zoom" creates a image of performance in the mind of the consumer. It doesn't matter what we think -- we are already sold -- what counts is if it creates top of mind with the undecided consumer. Toadman 02-13-2003, 07:44 PM Look at how many rip-offs the other makers are doing now but with a different twist(i.e. Nissan's "shift" campaign). Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even if the campaign is showing it's age. I think the kid is gone and likely 16-17 years old now. :D zoom44 02-13-2003, 07:45 PM pontiac commercials are even saying things like "D.N.A." and "soul" quicks8 02-14-2003, 07:10 AM It doesn't necessarily have to be cool, just catchy. And you have to admit it is. There is a Mazda vid in the Gallery from Mazda's Japan site that plays the Zoom Zoom song in the background while you watch the video and it just gets stuck in your head. It is a great maketing campaign that admittedly has been applied to too many of there models. Frankly when I see a their Minivan model or the Tribute, I think CHUG CHUG not ZOOM ZOOM. And that commercial that insinuated the Minivan posessed the SOUL of a Miata. A Minivan is a Minivan, a Miata is a Miata. Yeah they are both made by Mazda, but that is just about where the similarities stop. If Mazda's tactics catch on the next commercial you will see will be from Chevy telling you the Cavalier has the SOUL of a Z06. ggreen29 02-21-2003, 01:17 AM At first I was embarrassed by it, but when I saw the RX-8 videos with the song playing along (and that rotary revving) I developed a Pavlovian response. Now I have trouble thinking of one without the other, and any thought with an RX-8 in it is a happy thought. I'm gonna play that video again now, cuz you made me think of it.:D jonalan 02-21-2003, 04:49 PM I'm gonna play that video again now, cuz you made me think of it. What video are you referring to? bwayout 02-21-2003, 07:18 PM Originally posted by jonalan What video are you referring to? ... Well, my guess is it's from the Mazda RX-8 web site where you can build your own video clip (using FLASH programing in the "Fun Stuff/video card section) and also pick the sound track too ... (that would be track2 -zoom zoom...) http://www2.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/rx8/rx8_main_flash.jsp Smoker 02-23-2003, 08:07 PM ...still kinda cool I think. RXhusker 02-24-2003, 10:59 AM The fact that we are even talking about it proves that it is effective. Zoom Zoom Zoom -- it keeps going through my mind. justinm2 02-24-2003, 01:47 PM just a little useless information, the zoom-zoom kid was the second runner up for the lead part in that bruce willis movie where the kid "see's dead people" (i cant remember the name) wakeech 02-24-2003, 02:07 PM The Sixth Sense... i woulda rather seen the Mazda kid do it... that other one bothers me... he's too moon-eyed and cute, IMO... i think Zoom Zoom could really work for this car, especially if the kid doesn't just whisper it, he like SCREAMS it through a megaphone with the RX-8 tearing past, drifting, showing lots of legit rear-wheel smoke... :D zoom44 02-24-2003, 05:06 PM ya mean like this wakeech (me from last september): "exactly wakeech! they need to steal the energizer rabbit idea!put the car on a track and run it for like 24- 48hrs non-stop except for driver changes and fueling. then have the zoom zoom kid standing on the side of the track yelling "it keeps going and going and going!!!!" every time the car goes by. they could even have the car run that damn bunny over "nothing outlasts the renesis"" and i still that a whole discover channel documentary would be a good idea too(me again from the same thread): " recently saw a discover channel story on the new harley davidson motorcycle. they went thru the whole design and testing process including showing them running the engine at different rpms inside a metal( i think) box in the dessert. just to make sure the cooling system worked. maybe mazda could hook up with discover and do a show like that. very interesting to watch and a whole lot of publicity. just look what discover has done for that Jesse James guy and his custom bike buisiness." wakeech 02-24-2003, 05:46 PM omg :D that seems like such a long time ago... but yeah, something like that :D zoom44 02-24-2003, 06:14 PM i know what you mean i sems it was like a year ago but it was only half that.:D |
