My service writer will not just order the glovebox damper they broke without me leaving the car first.

I need?

Based on your picture, it looks like thats all you need. The attachment point appears to still be in good shape.

I took a GOOD look at this part in the airbag recall update, and the damper is VERY flimsy.

My technician says that no matter how careful you are, some of them break when removing, and they keep a stash of them around because it's so common.

this happened to me too when they did the airbag recall. there is a section in the tsb that mentions the damage done to the stay damper (page 8 of 12). the instructions are on there.

The dampers are not easy to break, you are supposed to disconnect them first and not just rip the glove box out.

I learned that after breaking one, and only one. After that I have had no problems, monkey learns....If a garage is stupid enough to keep making the same mistake over and over again then they won't be receiving my service!!!

Can't see your pics, but the damper attaches to the side of the glovebox and appears to be just fine when it's loaded in the intended up-and-down direction, but breaks easily if not carefully disconnected from the side of the box when servicing.
