Wow, that was an incredible read about an unthinkable disaster. Being a biker myself kind of resonated with me, but it is a piece for everyone to enjoy (it doesn't seem like the right word, but there it is) and contemplate. I hadn't seen if before, excellent find.

yea it's weird to think that a place like that can exsist in the same world I live in when I look out on the busy street with traffic jams and stuff...
it's so close that radioactive material probably blew across the oceans and I probably breathed part of it in through my life time, yet it's so far away that it's surreal to think it can be of the same world
the fact that those ppl probably went about their lives like we do now, thinking the world would continue to exist tomorrow, gives one pause to think that the continuation of our civilization is not as guarrenteed as we might think

My ex was a 3rd grade school teacher and she had a child in her class named Chernobyl. On the first day of school for that school year she asked the child to pronounce her name for fear of offending her saying her name wrong. The child said her name was Cher-no-belle. The child was from Filipino-American parents. It's a shame that you could have parents so ignorant to name a child after the world's worst nuclear disaster. Sad but true.
