Titanium Grey 02-17-2003, 06:52 AM I second that request.
In the UK the car review programs take a break between the new year and Easter, so we're not likley to see a telivised review for a month or two yet.:(
P00Man 02-18-2003, 01:44 PM not to mention if its mpeg'ed or otherwise digitized it can be DOWNLOADED!

unemployedpimp 02-23-2003, 09:27 PM i hope that i wont forget:(
edit: my bad, I thought it was going to be on today, but the Motorweek that airs today is last week's show with the Z4, etc.
Magnus Berglund 02-27-2003, 11:27 AM Let's hope someone tapes it and posts it here!!!

jonalan 02-27-2003, 03:28 PM edit: my bad, I thought it was going to be on today, but the Motorweek that airs today is last week's show with the Z4, etc.
[off topic] I missed the show with the Z4. What did they think of it?
Their verdict on the Z4 was that they found it to be superior to the Z3 in pretty much every way.
Also, both the Z4 (top-of-the-line 3.0i 6-speed) and the Dodge SRT-4 they tested got slower 0-60 times than the RX-8! :D (both got 6.0) Not that 0-60 is the ultimate metric of a car's worth, but I remember people making a big deal because they thought both of these cars would have better accleration than the RX-8.
The SRT-4 also turned a 14.9 in the 1/4, which is a far cry from what the pre-production "ringer" that Daimler sent out a few months ago as a PR stunt (it had the boost level turned up way higher than stock). Still, that car is a pretty good deal for the price.
fritts 02-27-2003, 06:42 PM The z4 I thought had gotten a 5.4 or 5.6 second 0-60 time in car and driver so I don't know how they got a 6 second time.
Maurice 03-01-2003, 10:56 AM I looked everywhere for the program and coundn't find any PBS station that would be broadcasting the program.
I did find this.
http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/carkeys/
and this:
http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/stationlist.shtml
The following link is from motorweek's website, a little lite on content but it looks like the preliminary review by the asst. producer is positive.
http://www.pbs.org/mpt/motorweek/carkeys/
So did anyone see the show, or better yet, tape it? For some reason, MotorWeek wasn't on my local PBS station today at the usual time...
Zoom49 03-01-2003, 05:06 PM Show was on PBS on Direct TV channel 384. It showed @ 1:00 pm pacific time. Similar on track footage to C & D from Laguna with
Vel Red car (Color looks great) with Black-Red interior shots.
Also had some low speed road footage. Tester said handling is
definitely true sports car. Said rear seat has plenty of room.
Not any performance data that I can remember.
ZoomZoomH 03-01-2003, 05:27 PM I just finished watching it, WOW it is NICE!
yeah there's no recorded performance number. it was in there 'Car Keys' segment, so it's just an overall impression and a quick test drive.
they were drifting the car around the autocross course!
still nice to see it in live action :)
I hope someone can capture it and upload/host it somewhere, it's only about a 2 minute clip :)
frogzapper 03-01-2003, 08:19 PM TV guide for my area shows the following description for MotorWeek on this evening:
"Road-tested: Lamborghini Murceilago, Nissan Murano SUV, Lexus RX 330, Volkswagen Toureg and Mitsubishi Endeavor. Also: checking vital fluids. John Davis is the host. (VCR Plus+ 15642) "
Is this the correct episode??

Nope.
Correct show is:
Roadtest of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado
Roadtest of the 2003 Kia Sorento
Goss' Garage: Hitch me up
FYI: Land Rover Driving School
Car Keys: Mazda RX-8, Nissan Maxima & Cadillac SRX
frogzapper 03-01-2003, 08:40 PM hmm, strange. I guess either the TV guide is wrong, or different channels air different episodes.
Anyway, I guess I won't try to rush home to catch it then!
Thanks for the reply!

did we watch the same epidsode? the one i watched started off with the lamborghhani diablo then the nissian murano, nothing about the rx8
zoom44 03-02-2003, 12:40 AM the one i saw ( and have on tape-i don't have a tivo:o ) doesn't have a lambo in it. at least i don't think it does i missed the first 5 minutes.
rx8daniel 03-02-2003, 02:35 PM I taped it on VHS; as I recall, the first test was of a Chevy Silverado CK; they had comparisons of the 250/350 HD trucks offered by Chevy;Dodge;Ford(unless I'm thinking of the later C&D TV show) highlighting the 520ft/lb torque 6.6L t.diesel of the Chevy. The RX-8 spot was short; almost the only footage they showed of it moving was the same thing shown several times. Nowhere near as good as last week's C&D piece.

Dude can you either shrink the Bimmer pic or delete it. It makes the threads extra long when you reply to 3,4,5 times or morre. Gets a little annoying. Yeah it's a great car and you're lucky to have it. But this is an RX8 forum.
PS: when you get yours post all the pics you want :D
Amen on geting rid of the BMW pic..too big and too often
jtdwab 03-09-2003, 06:48 PM Can somebody host a good copy of the motorweek review. My cable was out when it was on the air (some cable laying company cut the cable line to my neighborhood). I would greatly appricate the help. I am trying to make a DVD of all the videos I can find.
Thanks
Maurice 03-11-2003, 08:12 AM I just saw the motorweek review on Speed Channel about 30 mins ago. It looked as though their test driver was having the best time of his life pushing the RX-8 through the turns.
Woo-hoo!!!!

Gamera 03-30-2003, 03:05 AM I've put a copy on my site:
MotorWeek_CarKeys_RX-8.mpg.zip (http://www.rasterwerks.com/vid/MotorWeek_CarKeys_RX-8.mpg.zip)
01:52 min, 12.3 MB
video: 320x240 MPEG-1 1-pass VBR 800 kBit/s, 1000 max
audio: 44.1KHz stereo, 128 kBit/s
Short and nothing really new here, but the shots of it power-sliding through the autocross circuit at Laguna-Seca are always cool.
FYI, SoCal connections that need to hop through ATTBI routers are going to be very slow until they get their act together. I'm getting 25KB/s download speeds off my own server.
Okay everyone, grab a copy (mirror it if you like), so we can un-sticky this one.

It was an awesome segment. It sure looked like he had the stability control off. But if he had it on, the RX-8's computer sure does allow some freedom to the driver. He was racing the wheels off the car. Ultracool.
The thing I really like about the motorweek pieces are that they are very concise and well-written with good production quality. They show you what you need to see like the fairly big guy (about 6'1" 200lb) getting in the back seat and tell you what you need to hear like pricing etc.
All on comercial-free PBS. Can't beat that. I loved the segment as much as I loved the car shown.

BillK 04-15-2003, 09:34 AM FWIW, I checked this morning and the RX8 review episode of MotorWeek is due to air on Speed Channel next Tuesday, 4/22 at 8:30 AM EST.

tribal azn2 04-17-2003, 06:32 PM i saw it today. it was odd cause normally when they do 0-60 tests, they show it, but for the rx8 they just said 5.9. and they also didnt do a 1/4 or a braking, or a slalom like they usally do. pretty weird

There was no new driving footage, just the same tailhappy autocross and slow country road cruise that they used in their original "car keys" segment - none of the usual roads that they always use near their New England offices, nor any track footage.
Smoke and mirrors, if you ask me.
Gamera 04-22-2003, 08:45 PM Here's the full Motorweek review (not CarKeys version) in case anyone is interested:
MotorWeek_04.22.03_RX-8.mpg.zip (http://rasterwerks.com/vid/MotorWeek_04.22.03_RX-8.mpg.zip)
05:44 min, 38 MB
video: 320x240 MPEG-1 1-pass VBR 800 kBit/s, 1000 max
audio: 44.1KHz stereo, 128 kBit/s
rotory_it_up 04-22-2003, 09:08 PM If you watch the track footage closely, it shows a left hand drive for part of the segment and a right hand drive at others. Why the two cars?? Is it even their footage?? Anyone else notice this or am I on crack?

LOL! I think you meant envisioning how your (present) friends will look in ten years, but at first read I thought you meant the hope to get some friends after another 10 years :p
