What happens when you give a guy a car who just gets his license and decides to show off at the runs.

I wonder if they pounded on him for that.

i think he must have tried to do a handbrake turn without knowing that you pull the handbrake to lock the rear wheels so they slide around... dumbass...

no idea what that guy was thinking! did that vw he hit really fly all the distance? crazy. I dunno if he was trying to turn cuz it doesn't look like he was at a corner. Maybe he was trying to do a 180? Anyone here know how to do a 180?

MR2's are RWD... and it doesn't matter, he just got it so wrong that wouldn't have helped ;)

to do it, he woulda had to lock the rear wheels, maybe try a pendulum-type manouver to get the back end moving to the left before going to the left lock, releasing the hand brake, and gunning the throttle out of it... but he just hit the brakes and turned a little, like an idiot, and just went straight ;)

Now I'm just a new kid on the forum so I don't want to overstep, but shouldn't this thread be moved to the tech garage so someone can graph out the power ratio on this? Or should it be part of that thread on turning radius - curve - diameter?

ROFLMAO:D :D :D

Good find Elara! This will liven up the water cooler chat at work.

Haha.. we had a good laugh on my board about this about a month ago.. We had a tough time deciding who was the bigger idiot, the driver or the camera guy/commentator. :D

I thought the driver just lost the rear end and didn't know how to compensate. That ought to teach them a lesson. Stupid kids.

It seemed like a quick shift for his obvious lack of skill handling an automobile but I think he did hit second gear at about two seconds into the clip and just had too much wheel speed and not enough brains.

I've done 180's in my truck...of course this was going 20-25 mph at most on a flat gravel lot. quite fun at night when you kick up all that dust and you can't see wtf you're doing. anyways, i can't do the handbrake technique cause my handbrake is next to my clutch (heh, on the ranger forums, there are guys who want a sidepull hand brake.....i found that hilarious). So the next best thing would be to swing the back around by turning one way then jerking your car, or in my case, the truck, to the other direction and either hitting the brakes to slide around or floor it and have your rear wheels spin, like a donut.

so if that guy in the video wanted to do a 180 going to his left, he should have started going in a diagnol direction to his left turn right sharply, but not too sharp, and then floor the gas pedal and jerk left. by this time, your wheels should be spinning and you should find yourself spinning to your left. or pull the handbrake to swing the back end around. you can't pull it too soon cause if you don't have enough momentum to swing the back end around, you'll do what he did. btw, don't do this in your car...cause 1, it's stupid. 2...it's stupid. 3....you're stupid if you can't see why this is stupid.

what's really fun is doing j-turns. my roomate and i used to go to the VA hospital around 4-5am after a rainy night, where the parking lot was empty, and we'd go in reverse 40-45mph and jackknife the car around. it's quite fun in a honda accord station wagon. couldn't do it too often cause of cops.

No doubt about it, this joker was not trying to do any real trickery just a rolling burnout. What a jackass!

I think it's fake...
How did he push that jetta that far.
And how in the world was the jetta parked, where he hit the rear RIGHT taillight?
If he drove at that angle, and the jetta was parked, then he should have hit either the front right, or rear left of the car, pending on whether they backed in the spot. I don't see how he could have hit the rear RIGHT taillight if the jetta was parked.

You could say that the jetta was hit while moving down the parking lot, but the broken tailight bits are found on the parking stall, so that can't be right.

Of course it could be real, but this is a pretty loose end to me...

why couldnt' he have hit the right rear of the jetta? most of the stuff on the ground was by the left front of his car anyhow...
