View Full Version : Moonroof wind deflector - go or no go?
spaceman 04-09-2004, 09:24 PM Guys,
I ordered my 8 a month or so and it's should be arriving in a week or so and just wanted some opinions on the optional wind deflector for the moonroof.
I have seen many (really any) 8's with it installed and was wondering what it would look like and if it would take away from the "clean line look" that attracted me to it.
Any pics would be helpful also.

P.S. Mine is a Red, 6MT with spoiler.
Sea Ray 04-09-2004, 09:26 PM Here was mine with it when delivered, I have since removed it. Wind is not bad at all without it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can I ask why you removed it? Looks?
I didn't get the front and rear rotary accents and was thinking to get them to "swap" for the deflector (depending on cost of course).
Any ideas on the dealer price for the rotary's?
Sea Ray 04-09-2004, 10:09 PM I think the accents are retail around $170 or so. The deflector was maybe 40? Doubt you could talk them into that.
At first I was going to keep it, but I took it off to clean and zanio under it, liked it that way and just left it off. Very little difference in wind. I don't think they look bad but I just like the cleaner look I suppose.
rjacobs 04-09-2004, 10:34 PM It breaks up the lines of the car to much. I dont have a moonroof, but would not get it even if I did. Anything that breaks up the lines of the car would not go on mine, only things that add to the look.
spaceman 04-09-2004, 10:34 PM Thanks.
I'm going to get the rotary's and maybe get a few oil changes for the deflector.
D MENAC 7 04-09-2004, 11:44 PM No deflector, the RX-8 has a built in deflector that pops up after the roof is open about 3 or 4 inches and it works great. Also, if you want extra air across your head, just open it up about an inch or two and you get a lot of down draft coming in, it feel great on a warm day.
Baller 04-09-2004, 11:46 PM Hell no.
poolsidenaz 04-10-2004, 01:06 AM NO way. I'm so glad I didn't get one now that I've got my 8. Look at it this way - you can buy one for $40 if you decide you want one later. Start without it first and see what you think. No question to me: It completely messes up the aerodynamic appearance of the car. I have mine open all the time - no wind deflector needed :D
Rotary accents - you're looking at $140 if it comes already on the car...$170-$200 if you add it on later. The truth hurts :(
rxeightr 04-10-2004, 08:10 AM No - no need & distracts from the clean lines.
loco4rx8 04-10-2004, 09:46 AM I agree - I think it detracts from the look of the car.
DemonRX-8 04-10-2004, 12:37 PM I took mine off a few weeks after getting the car. Never wanted it to begin with.
KSigMTSU 05-09-2004, 03:18 AM Curious how to remove that, havent looked at mine but want to remove it now to see the difference in looks. Is it just held on with adhesive? What is the best removal method?
RXDave 05-09-2004, 09:30 AM I got my accents for $130.00 from Rosenthal and installed them myself. Check out my installation thread.

TiRX8 05-09-2004, 09:36 AM It makes the care look like a taxi! It's FUGLY.
spaceman 05-09-2004, 09:40 AM Thanks.
I decided not to get the wind deflector and did get the rotary's. I at cost and the other for free! Not bad.
I'm glad I didn't get it (the deflector). It does break up the lines.
cheers

DrFoster 05-09-2004, 06:04 PM SURE GET IT!
But only if you want the "I shop at Checker Auto parts, and attach EVERYTHING in the second isle to my car" look.
Those things are super-ghetto. :)

Hey Dave - how much for shipping? I can buy at $155 here from the dealer and wonder if I should go thru Rosenthal instead.
