the only things i would really like to see in my RX-8 is a factory, well designed...

CUPHOLDER

oh yeah other refinements needed are...

-A non-automanual option... I need a clutch

-throw away, or make it optional to not have the chrome looking dash. i hate that crap, when in traffic and the sun hits it and reflects bright light into your eyes... Argh

I bet they'll make those cupholders rotor-shaped as well! :P

yeah the reoccuring rotor motif is getting a little rediculous. the SHift knob is going to far, the thing around the start button is cool, and the hole in the seats that is rotor shaped is a nice touch.

I think they need to lose some of that, and maybe a rotor shaped pair of cupholders would be nice because then the trianglur point of the "triangle" can be used to retain the handle to a cup with a handle...

i still think they need to have availible either a real carbon fiber or faux carbon fiber dash and interiour trim, Like the MPV that had parked near the RX-8 at the show. I hate the reflective aluminum trim, to the point it is really turning me off to the car.

I think they got a little rotary happy, ya think? As for cup holders make em an option along with the chrome dash, and yes I feel that carbon fiber would be a very nice touch, I mean ford did it in the focus, so why not?

Real sport drivers dont want silly things like cup holders, but 99.5% cant afford to have ten cars so make them a no cost option for us commuters and students.

Chrome is chrome loved by some hated by some. Can we say OPTION?

That's true; but by the pure fact that this has four doors, this is a car for people who have to deal with real life at the same time.

You guy realise there's a rotor impression on the hood as well eh? Don't forget the triangular rear fog light.

There's better be some good cup holders in the Rx-8! especially since i eat breakfeast, lunch and dinner sometimes on the road or on the way to work and i get tired of holding my drink on my crotch because the cup holders are too shitty or aren't the right size, in order to use the cup holders in my 84 Rx-7 you have to open the freakin glove box and there you go, and they aren't even that great :(

...and I would hate it for my drink to spil over beautiful seats if I need to change gears and do some racing on the fly ;-)... so yes, cup holders are a must... RX8 is not track racer

I agree good cupholders are a must. It might seem like the quality of the cupholders are a dumb thing to worry about in a "sports car". But the RX-8 is supposed to be a practical family sports car so excellent cupholders are a must.

Bah! Go get some decent aftermarket ones. ;)

I see no reason why Mazda needs to add bells and whistles just because you guys want to slurp cappuccino while you are stylin' in your 8. Leave the cupholder out of mine if you please. :D

They are like $5 at Pep Boys or NAPA or whatever you have near you. :D

My wife's Diamante has cup holders, and they collect everything except cups. Hair doohickeys, parking ramp tickets, spare change (even though it has a separate compartment for that), straw rappers, you name it.

Better than the 626 we had though. She made "soup" in the console bucket all the time in that one. Two parts Dr. Pepper, 1 part Hills Brothers, add loose cigarette tobacco and spare change, let sit in sun or chill depending on seasonal limitations. Serves up to 5 adults with a visual feast. Exceptionally fun at detailing time. ;)

Lot's of cup holders (like 5) would be cool.

I owned a '97 Civic and the cup holders sucked. You didn't have access to the CD player at all if there was something in the cup holder. It's difficult enought to put a CD in while driving, let alone juggle a cup of coffee.

5 Cup holders in my RSX...That's what I'm talkin' about.

im with spwolf...with cupholders, i am prone to bring in a drink, which i would hate to have spill and get my dash all sticky...i think its better to keep drinks OUTSIDE the car:D

I agree. Cars are for driving. There are too many cell-phone-talking-make-up-applying-cappuccino-drinking MFs on the road as it is. Even on long distance trips a cup holder is not needed. That's why they have "Gas - Food - Lodging" signs along the interstate. :D

If I do dink anything in my car, it's in a resealable bottle. ;)

I never eat in my RSX b/c I want to keep it clean. I drink in it though, but only if the cup has a lid or it's a resealable bottle.

Beside if it's a carbonate drink, the bottle will roll around when you're driving and explode when you open it.

velo, how do you plan to fit a supersize/jumbo drink into your mini cup holders? can you?

veloceracing
04-19-2002, 07:55 AM
I dont eat in my cars. But most fast food places make their "TUB-O-SODA" sized cups with smaller basses so that they can fit in cup holders, so I do suppose it is possible.

spwolf
04-19-2002, 08:01 AM
so you never buy fast food i guess? you dont have to eat it in the car, but you have to have a place to put ur soda.... since cup holders are under the radio, there is no way big jumbo slurpy or coke can fit in there... i guess it is fine if you dont eat fast food or go to 7/11... definetly fine in europe... its only usa that has jumbo everything

or are there cup holders near hand break as well?

Where's the "I'm with Stupid ^ " smiley when you need it? ;)

Eating in a car is for teenagers. When you get older, you find better planning skills, and better places to eat. You learn that McDonalds is not fine cuisine. It's kind of like sex. There's a line you cross at some point in your life when you realize that turning yourself into a pretzel in a car is no fun any more, and that you pay good money for a place to keep a bed, or that the great outdoors is more spacious. :D

The only reason I would ever have to have a beverage in a car would be on a road trip. I just am not so impatient that I must have one driving around town. I can wait until I reach home, or my destination. And if you can't bend down to reach the floor to pick it up, you probably shouldn't have a beverage in the first place, unless it's diet or water. :p

Honestly, mirrors that dim themselves, seatbelts that put themselves on, cup holders... God we are a lazy bunch, aren't we?

Well yeah I do get fast food, but I usually eat it there when I have to. Most of the time I find a Diner, something New Jersey is great for, and eat their. Their are enough morons on the road for me to worry about that I dont want to have to pay a dry cleaning bill on top of a medical bill or my deductable. But I do drink in my car, mostly water though, its better for you anyway, and doesnt make for sticky seats...thats what sex is for, i am just 19 you know :D

I really like the fact that mazda is loading the 8 up with rotary cues. Most non-rotar heads won't even notice while the fanatics should love it. More power to them. My only regret is that they did away with the push-button start. I had such great plans for that.

I'm sorry, just a little sarcasm, nothing personal. ;)

You are probably being serious, did you want to re-map its function or something?

If Mazda can design and build therotary and the new RX-8, they ought to be able to design and install cup holders that will accomodate North American tastes (read Vente-sized cup). They don't need to be unattractive and can maybe be a fold-down or fold-out design so that when not in use, they aren't visible.

I plan to use the car for my daily driver and as such, I need at least one decent cup holder.:D

Someone started this thread in January 2001. Most if not all of the original people probably were chasing dreams and never ended up getting an RX8.

Now that the RX8 is actually available, we know that it has 4 excellent cupholders. Or, it is what is called the 2+2 configuration (2 warmers, 2 regular).

Out of all the original posters, the one poster who was dissing fast food is probably the only one small enough to fit inside a production RX8 when it was finally released. The rest never made into the test drive.

WantedTwo, if you hate the cupholders that much, you'd have BIP it already.

Due to weight savings and the fine taste of these individuals as a whole, most real RX8 drivers do not go around from drive through to drive through slurping down 44 ounce sodas. Most do not even frequent drive throughs nor are they regulars at fast food restaurants.

I once had a job sitting in the drive through window, and served countless thousands of customers. I will remember two of them: an NBA basketball player, and the guy who was pinned in his seat by the steering wheel.

So i'd buy a non spill coffee cup! At least I'd be able to reach my coffe and still be able to shift (but not at the same time). Given the room available I'd live with it.
