View Full Version : Funky extras...

I was wondering if the RX-8 will come with a bunch of funky little extra features like the 350Z does. When I test drove the 350 the salesman showed me that you could put the windows down by holding the key in the door keyhole. He also said that you could roll down the windows with the keyless entry remote (although I never saw one to verify). Also, when you open and close the doors on the Z, the windows crack up/down accordingly, a trait I first saw on my father's Boxster.

I thought all cars (with electric windows and sunroof) could open/close all windows and sunroof via the remote keyfob or by holding the key in the lock (my last three vehicles could). Even the VW Jetta can do this if I remember my TV ads correctly, so I would expect the RX-8 to do the same (and if it doesn't who cares - I never used the feature in the last 5 years)...

The other feature you mention applies to frameless windows (cars where windows without door frames around them often drop the window a tad to equalize pressure or to fit into convertible roofs when you close the door). The RX-8 doesn't need this feature.

one feature that i really wish they had but don't is one-touch windows (both up AND down). i think the rx-8 will have one-touch down for the driver's side window, but that's about it. that's unfortunate.

going along the same lines, i wish they'll have one touch open AND close for the moon roof. my current car only has one-touch open for the moon roof and it's so annoying how i have to hold the button down whenever i need to close it.

I doubt you'll ever get the one touch to close windows feature, I can just see the lawsuits now about people getting their fingers stuck in an automatic closing window. I believe its for safety reasons that they dont include that feature on any car.

One touch close windows have been standard on Audi for several years now, at least in UK spec.

One thing I'd like to see although I know it's not going to happen is something for the key. I like how VWs and I think BMWs or Audi's have the key that goes in a little fob-type thing that has the controls. I'm a big fan of that.

actually, i've seen the one-touch feature on many a luxury oriented cars... namely bmws, benzes, lexuses (or lexi). they have a sensor so that if you stick your arm in there while it's auto closing, it'll stop.

since it's hard to steer, change gears, and hold down the window close button all at the same time, it's especially helpful when pulling out of toll booths!

i'm actually pretty happy that it'll at least have the trunk open button on the key fob.

It's even on my Acura RSX. I love that feature when leaving a drive-through.

But I consider that a minor omission, which I can fix with a reliable, $40 controller that I can easily wire into each of the doors, and into the sunroof controls.

That's why you need a 9000rpm redline. Don't need to change gears until the window is up. :D
