View Full Version : MSRP imposed on dealers alarabie 02-06-2003, 02:15 PM I read in the Audi forum that the dealers who charge more than MSRP would have their allotment reduced. Anybody else read that? Zio 02-06-2003, 02:28 PM Only if you preorder. Dealers can price over MSRP, but anyone who preordered AT MSRP with that dealer, is obligated to get the car at MSRP. TreknMazda 02-06-2003, 02:33 PM Hadn't heard that before now. But I recall reports that MAZDA threatened (fact or rumor??) to PULL dealerships that charged more than list for a previous model release. That was the Miata, I think. Believing Mazda to be a manufacturer courageous enough to take that stance for the buying public, I was a little surprised with the talk of markups on the RX8. It's a shady world... who knows? jbebernes 02-07-2003, 06:09 AM As has been mentioned in several other threads, supply and demand will drive selling prices up in some (metropolitan) areas. But I think it is great that most of the dealers are holding the line on the pre-orders. Nevertheless, the S in MSRP stands for "Suggested"... Mazda may frown on markups by dealers, but a slap on the wrist is about the extent of the punishment. DrKillJoY 02-07-2003, 01:07 PM please report any substantial charges over MSRP to Mazda NAO. Mazda is very keen on keeping the inital MSRP down on the RX-8, as it is the gateway back to a rotary lineup. Dealers straying from the no-narkup policy can be subjected to among other things allotment reductions, and delays in distribution while other "preferred" dealers get first dibs. Elara 02-07-2003, 05:26 PM If this is really true, I'm going to give them a call and report the dinglehead at the dealer in town I DIDN'T order from, who insisted he couldn't sell it to me for less than between $2000-$5000 over MSRP, because "all the dealers in Northern Virginia are charging $5000 over MSRP." Of course, that might just be mean, because besides my car, I've already sent someone else to the dealer I went to. So the jerky dealer lost TWO sales. The first Northern Virginia dealer I went to only charged MSRP. Oh, no! Should I have shopped around till I found one that charged more:confused: Excuuuuse me:p zoom44 02-07-2003, 06:47 PM Originally posted by Elara If this is really true, I'm going to give them a call and report the dinglehead at the dealer in town I DIDN'T order from, who insisted he couldn't sell it to me for less than between $2000-$5000 over MSRP, because "all the dealers in Northern Virginia are charging $5000 over MSRP." "uhh i can't sell it to you for that price because other dealers are charging more and that wouldn't be fair to me, so you should go buy it somewhere else and tell your freinds to also." yeah real bright guy at that dealership. P00Man 02-07-2003, 06:52 PM lol ________ Nevada Medical Marijuana Dispensaries (http://nevada.dispensaries.org/) Elara 02-07-2003, 09:40 PM Yeah, he even argued with me when I told him the other dealership said MSRP...he said they were "stupid." So I pointed out that I would be "stupid" not to go with them, then, if they were so dumb they were going to charge me less than everyone else. And he STILL argued. I love idiots. rtryboi 02-07-2003, 10:04 PM i posted something like this in the NE forum, but i thought i'd share my experience here: the mazda dealer in my town (Wayne Mazda in NJ) is asking for $10K over MSRP... yes, they are THAT ridiculous. when i told them that other dealers were selling for MSRP and that i had put down a deposit at a dealership that was only selling at MSRP, the guy went on to threaten me saying that there would be a huge delay in getting my car because they would sell my pre-order to someone else at above sticker once they got it. when i said i'm pretty confident that i'd get my car this summer, the guy actually said that he'd be willing to put money on it!!! all this he said with a naaasty attitude too. grrrrr. Toadman 02-07-2003, 10:42 PM 10k??? Pre-orders thru the Mazda website were locked in at MSRP. Call Customer Relations at 800-222-5500 and give them a name. Ludicrous! Renesis08 02-08-2003, 03:13 AM It's amazing that sales people are this lame. 1. They don't know about the car they are selling. (Or that it is going to be available). 2. They create ridiculous markups. 3. They threaten you by saying I have no problem selling your car. (Their way of convincing you to buy it right away so that they can secure the sale). If Mazda knew all the members here and their knowledge, I'm sure they would have a new staff at their dealers (and a free 8 to go along :D ). Oh well... at least we know we will have our precious soon. brownchiro 02-08-2003, 08:38 AM Looks like we can make money on our cars as soon as we get them. I saw this happen when I ordered the (during the first wave of) turbo Beatle and WRX. People were advertising in the news paper to sell their new cars. Maybe we should preorder 2 RX8x. I bet this has already being done.?:p tallguylehigh 02-08-2003, 09:03 AM rtryboi- Hey I went to the same dealerhsip! I posted the thread in the NE forum on it. My advice, report them to Mazda, it will feel good and the guy I talked seemed generally pissed about that kind of gouging. Haven't been back to the dealership to see if they changed, but the guy said that the Mazda Regional Director would be noted of the violation. Hooray closure!!! :D pelucidor 02-08-2003, 11:57 AM You should offer him a $100 bet (in writing) and see how confident he is that you won't get first allocation. EEE 02-08-2003, 12:12 PM You can't believe the type of people they put on the sales positions. My friend went to this Nissan Dealer here in Toronto, Ontario. His conversation with the dealer went like this: Friend: I know that the Sentra SE-R Spec-V comes with Helix LSD, I was wondering if the Base SE-R model comes with Helix LSD or the previsous version of Viscous LSD? Dealer: what? what's LSD? Friend: ehh, nevermind. The SE-R Spec V has different pullies from the Spec-V right? Dealer: I don't know, it has different engines I think Friend: Its not a different engine. They use the same core! Dealer: Ignores my friends. I believe if Mazda, or Nissan, or Toyota or just any manufacturers would give these salesmen a free 1 day seminar to teach them about cars; or how a car works and how the models are different from one another. Their sales would increase definiately. I can bet if you ask a Mazda sales rep how the RX-8 Renesis Motor design differs from the RX-7's Wankel Rotory, most of the salemen will not be able to answer you. DrKillJoY 02-09-2003, 11:36 AM funny you mention about classroom time.. actually salesmen to get training... WHAT did he say.. yup.. there are always meetings and seminars where the dealers and salesmen are invited to go to.. (or sometime the classrooms goto them) however, just like kids in jr. high do they listen or are they just to ignorant to learn.. or for that matter od they even care... do you remember what you learend in Physical Science class in 7th grade? Did YOU listen for that matter? ... occasionally you have "A" students.. but more than often you just get a guy who is trying to make a paycheck.. and could care less about being at the head of his class. Anyhow.. just my .02 |
