Plays with cars,
Who are you associated with?? I may be interested but first I would like to have some more info about you and who you represent before I would consider letting my car take part in this. Thanx.

man there's thunderstorms this saturday...how will they react at the event? Would they cancel the event if the rain never lets up? And if they cancel, do we get our money back?

Here is some good info. Should have the answers to your questions.

Near the bottom of the FAQ it addresses the rain issue.

I plan on heading up there on Sunday. I put down a winning time at the Houston event but blew it when I coned the run. Gotta give it another shot to see if I can stay away from those pesky cones and get into the finals.

Bummer it's not at TWS again this year - Lone Star Park looks more of a PITA to get to from Austin.

TWS or TMS?

Lone Start Park is just off of I-30, in between Dallas and Ft. Worth, so it's actually a little closer than TMS when you're coming up I-35W.

it was at TMS last year.. you could seethe autocrossers from across the parking lot I heard.

TWS of course is about 200 miles south in College Station. :D

Yeah, I meant TMS - I always get those two acronyms confused. TMS was a piece o' cake to get to from here - straight up I-35, keep left on 35W, and you're there. Last year the competition at TMS was fierce because a round of the SCCA Solo II SW Divisional Championship was being held at the same venue on the same weekend.

Now that I look more closely at the map, I see what you mean about it being just off I-30. I had hoped to avoid traipsing all the way into downtown Dallas, but if that's the easiest way to get to 30 from 35, I guess that's the way I'll go.

I'm not looking forward to the drive back on Sunday for two reasons.

The Weather Channel's forecast is currently showing 60% chance or rain/thunderstorms. Grand Prarie Forecast (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/75050?lswe=75050&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared)

I can hazard a guess as to why it's not at TMS this weekend. The NASCAR Busch Series and Nextel Cup races are there this weekend. That's probably going to add to the traffic factor coming home as well. Staying off of 35W on Sunday night will probably be a requirement.

Downtown Dallas is actually out of the way. Just go up 35, keep left on 35W, then go East on 30.

The race would be the reason why it's not at TMS this weekend. But by the time you get down to I35 South of Ft. Worth, is the race traffic going to make that much difference in the normal Sunday evening traffic? It certainly does on 35W N. of Fort Worth, but by the time you get South of town, it normally isn't all that different.

Ahhh, just came back from the first day. Didn't compete, but got to test drive the new Miata..... :D :D its an absolute blast to drive that thing. On some different notes, saw a bunch of 7s & 8s (finally) but didn't meet up with anyone.

Ohhhh, and made my way into the Chalk Talk (spying!! ) -- now I'm hooked and the wife too. Need to look up a driving school in the area, and a cheap ol' Miata to start with.

My son and I went and had a good time. We met adrian-1 and saw his awesome car. We also met rogue8. At least I think that was his handle. If it comes to your town, it is worth the money.

Spent half the day doing the practice courses and racing. Rest of the time I was by my car or in the tent.
I had the stereo up pretty loud several times during the day to show it off but I didn't want to drain my battery. Also started it up and revved up the borla once.
I started to lock the doors when I was away since I noticed some people "messing" with it. (Some teenager punk was shifting through the gears, don't know if he thought it was a dealer car? Had him out of the car shortly afterwards, I guess he didn't notice the stereo, radar detector, or my stuff in the back seat.)

someone stole the shifter knob out of the mazdaspeed rx-8. How lame is that?

Pavehawk
04-05-2004, 03:50 PM
Did they steal it or did Mazda remove them all? Every "display" car I saw at the show had shifters, knobs, and every other easily pilfered "trophy" object removed. Even the gas cap release levers were taped down. I suspect they simply removed them to prevent them from being stolen.
