Just to give you some information :

In Greece the lowest unleaded gas you can get in any gas station is 97 octane unleaded gas. The best one is bp ultimate 100 octane or shell racing 'michael schumacher' 99+ octane unleaded gas.

I was recommended by my car dealer to only use high octane fuel in order to keep my engine healthier and run properly for more years.

My experience is that I get more mileage per gallon using higher octane fuel which I believe is common sense

Your 97 octane gas can be the same as our 93 octane gas over here. It depends on what method they use to come up w/ that rating.
Anyways, don't waste your money on super duper racing gas. The RX8 is a normal car, not a race car. The only reason to get race gas is if your 8 is boosted and you are racing it that day.
I don't think more octane equals more MPG.
Just use whatever is considered "premium" octane gas. Check your manual.

Hi SaxRX-8, since you are in Greece as me, I live in Thessaloniki, and I plan to get an RX-8 in the next 6 month period, please tell me which is the average consumption in litters/ 100 km than you are getting in your 8.
Also how is the handling in our perfect slippery roads?
How the suspension reacts in our perfect roads special in holes or rail crossing.

I have 14-16lt/100km, with EKO 100
Oil consumption is only 50cc, after 2100KM.
The handling is superior from my alfa 156-1.8lt.

In terms of consumpion I get 14-16lt/100km like nam.
Handling is GREAT and slippery roads can be fun if you deactivate the dsc feature and start playing with the rear end of the car. Suspension is also great and absorbs everything, I don't know how long it will last though.
You should definetely upgrade although the 406 coupe is a beautiful car. However if you haven-t driven a rear wheel drive before you should be careful, the 8 is like holding a weapon oyu should get to know it, feel it , test it and then drive it to the limit.

I am very puzzled by the fact that we have different rating but all named as octane...?

I am sure everywhere is getting he 100 octane - it should be made in the same way as the oil refiner are using the same method - hard to imagine that use any other methods... I heard making hi octane is just extracting the fuel from cruel oil in a higher temp - the desuel is in much lower temp.... hmm sounds like a chemistry lecture isn't it?

On the contary the rotary community is not as provoting to have hi octane as the VTEC people I used to be with. In my integra I used to add fuel additive to gain power but I doubt it will do much for the rotaries.

I don't know if everybody is getting the same ammount of octane in the gasoline because diffrent countries have diffrent laws and tariffs.

However high octane fuel such as the 100 octane gas we get here in Greece is not used so you can drive faster but for keeping the engine in a good state. this is the main argument in Greece used by all car dealers and not only mazda. TT's Z's S2000's all prefer high octane gas. Caution this gas is diffrent than using fuel additives.
