I've seen a thread on the main forum with pictures of a blue car with a UK plate mounted inside front grille.
I must confess to thinking it spoils the "aggresive" looks of the car.
What do you think and what's the alternative?

I agree, but there is not much of an alternative.
I think you should do another poll :D
What about a plate off to the side, as with the Alfa 147 or 156. Not sure what this would look like though. Does anybody have a good jpeg they could drag a plate onto to see what it's like?
Another poll to decide on centre, off centre (left or right aka 156)or top of bonnet.
However, the back number plate space looks like it would fit a nice square type which will look better than normal (poll?).

A square plate would make our UK cars look like grey imports, not a good idea so lets hope for original shapes!
Square plate.
I don't know. I used to have a Jag XJS 3.6 1989 (UK manufacturted) which had a square plate and looked substantial. I think all XJS had this big space for a square plate.

This has nothing to do with plate positioning but I read in either Car or Evo magazine that if you fit a square no. plate to the front of a car, certain forward facing speed cameras cannot recognise the number so no fine would be issued. The magazine I read this in had tested this theory by bombing up and down motorways in a Tuscan R. I think it is a load of crap but thats my opinion.
There is no legislation regarding the width of number plates, only the letter size and spacing. The standard size is 520mm wide to accomodate 7 digits and an EU flag. If you get rid of the flag and use a plate with only 5 or 6 digits you can trim the plate down to anywhere between 350 and 400mm while still adhering to legislation.
A plate this size would probably not spoil the front end aggresiveness so much.
Smaller plats as possible at the front with no GB flag to limit looks hindrance.
But big square at back.
