Is anyone else annoyed with the rearview mirror? I cant use the home link - and no one can tell me why it doesnt work. The auto dimming option is poor and living with arizona sunshine, i would prefer to change it manually. Plus it doesnt have the NESW directional which should be standard nowadays. I am tempted to bring rex to Mazda's service center and see if they can put the rearview mirror from the 6 in it. What do u think?

The Homelink takes a really long time to program from your existing remote...more than 30 seconds before it will remember your code.
If you have one of the fancy 'rolling code' door openers, there is a procedure in the book...if you don't follow it, it won't work.

If you don't like the auto-dim, turn it off........

Maybe the fault is not the mirror, but the programming?

im only annoyed on the size, u really cant see enough in ur back. My homelink took about 5 mins to install having no idea what to do. Remember to push the red button on the garage opener motor thingy (no idea what its called). I forgot to do that, thats why i had some trouble. For the dimming, i think it dims too much, i have trouble seeing if cars are the cops becuz its too dark.

I don't use the Homelink, but I am annoyed with it's lack of adequate dimming too. Mazda should've made it adjustable so that people can set the dimming to their level of preference. I'd much prefer to do it myself otherwise.

Did anyone ever figure out if the rearview mirror homelink/compass in the 6 , will work on the rx8. I would like to have the one with the compass on it!

the mirror is fine...what i dont' understand is, if you live in sunny Arizona why not tint your windows?? i wouldn't expect the auto-dimming mirrors to dim enough to reduce outside glare, it's purpose is to dim enough as not to blind you from the headlights of traffic at night...in that respect, it does its job perfectly...as for Homelink, it took me a good hour to get it right...now that it works, i love it...it's one less accessory (garage door opener) inside my car

the NSEW compass is on my navigation unit =)

People have very different tolerances on what is blinding and what is not. What is perfectly acceptable to you is too bright for me. Having the ability to adjust the level of dimming seems to make a lot of sense to me. Not having that ability, I would have been much happier to have the simple manual flip that has worked so well on my other cars.

two things:
1. Adjust the mirror so the light hit's it better.
2. Read the manual as it has many nice tid bits about the car including how to program the homelink.

the rearview mirror is a direct reflection of the outside world...so if you're saying that the reflection from the rearview is too bright, then so is the rest of the view from each and every one of your windows! again, if it's too bright outside, you have several options - wear sunglasses or get your windows tinted...holy cow, it really IS that easy! ;)

Boy living in AZ without tinted windows? I wouldn't dream of such a thing. I agree with BRx8, you need tinted windows.

1. I wasn't talking about it being too bright during the day. It's the night time dimming with headlights directly behind me that is lacking for me.
2. I wear glasses so it is not very convenient for me to wear sunglasses. I prefer not to wear contacts because they irritate my eyes. I used to wear prescription sunglasses until they were stolen (yes, can you believe it?). At $300+ bucks per pair (yes, my eyesight is very bad), I'm not all that enthusiastic about buying another pair.
3. I live in Virginia were the legal tint level is almost not worth having done.

So it really isn't all THAT easy, now is it? Now making the dimmer adjustable would've been much easier . . . for me anyway.

I still can't get the homelink to work.. after calling the techs there, it's not working. It either works for a bit.. then stops.. and kills the standard remote I use to use. Or it works fine, but then I can't get any of the other ones to work.

Yes it's a rolling Garage key type.

I just checked with my parts dept. and they said the wiring is not setup for the compass even if you have the homelink and auto dimming feature curr.

I set up both my 8's Homelink and my wife's Accord's Homelink in about 10 minutes. In fact, if I am in the driveway, she can open the garage door for me using the Accord Homelink and, after I pull in, I can close it with mine.

Works vice versa too; if she is pulling up, I can open the door with the 8's Homelink, etc.

Pretty Cool.

For me, the auto-dimming took some time to get used to. Now the only time I'm unhappy with it is when someone abruptly changes lanes and gets behind me. The natural reaction is to look into the mirror when you see that, but the mirror hasn't dimmed fast enough.

OTOH, the other night I pulled up to a stoplight and noticed that the car to my right was not pulling all the way up alongside me. In fact, it stopped about a car length back. The mirror was just bright enough that I could see the cop-lights on the top of the car. I think he was watching me for fast starts and didn't want me to know he was a cop!

I have programmed a several home link buttons. The RX8 and three other friend's cars that said that home link didn't work. For rolling codes, you have to push the programming button on the door opener pretty quick. It is a lot easier with two people doing it (one in the car, the other at the opener). Read and follow the directions EXACTLY. If you still have problems, maybe one of the other local owners can help you out.
