I was driving home yesterday, and I noticed a car with back doors that opened backwards like the back doors of the RX-8, but at a second glance, it was a Saturn Ion Quad Coup.

I feel so silly. I wonder if mazda actually "copied" them. i do believe the Ion was out first.

I've taken a second glance a few times. Saturn had it first... but Mazda did it better at least.

I always loved that rear door in the saturn. I am now so happy I own a car I actually really like with that same concept. (even if they didn't invent it)

Saturn had this on the SC coupe (the car the Ion replaced), though only on one side. Ford & GM (and probably others) have been using a "suicide door" on some of their pickup truck models for years. It's not a new idea.

But Mazda gets the prize for the most beautiful vehicle with 4 doors ;)

saturn didnt have it first. suicide doors have been around since like the 20's and 30's.

I saw one of these on the road yesterday. I noticed the suicide doors and knew it was a Saturn... man, that thing got hit hard with the ugly stick! :)

Not too bad. But, those rims have got to go....

yah I do remember seeing the suicide doors on a truck sometime back in the day.
