So my window gets stuck on the driver's side and will not go up unless you pull on it a bit. When it sticks it makes a loud grinding sound as if gears are stripped almost. Any ideas what exactly it is. One thought it may be debris on the tracks, but that doesn't seem like the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having the same problem on my Mazda 6i. It could go down normally, but if you want to put it up...it could, but needs help by pushing it up by your hand. Not sure exactly what is causing it.

 

Bump time.....I am pretty sure I will need to replace the regulator/motor, but just curious if anyone else has encountered the same issue. If so, how difficult was it to replace. Thanks

 

It is probably the window motor regulator. Although I have yet to take apart an RX-8 assembly (knock on wood), most have a nylon (or plastic) gear assembly. And when one of the gears strip, you get the symptoms you are describing.

 

Same here - ordering regulator today. A v reliable mechanic friend says he is 95% certain it is regulator. (Have also seen dirt in tracks mentioned but think that is unlikely.)

So what have you done so far??
