It's not that my Miata didn't get some looks and the occasional wave or thumbs up, but it was nothing like this new club I have apparently joined by owning the RX-8. I'm still caught off guard by the enthusiastic thumbs up from people hanging out of their cars getting a better look at my 8. Seems to come most often from other auto enthusiasts- so far I have been greeted by a couple of Corvettes, several Miata's, a couple of RX7s, a 350Z, an STi, and today a guy in a G35c. My only negative greeting so far has been from a bunch of teenagers packed into a Lancer Evo when I declined to race them at a stop sign (what kind of parent buys a teenager a car with that much power??).

How much of the 'thumbs-up' do you guys get around the country/world? Are there any particular car owners that you find snub the RX8 instead?

It's amazing the amount of people who give me the thumbs up! Even young kids go nuts!! I almost can't keep my eyes on the road cuz I notice so many people staring and turning their heads!! It's fun and I feel really cool! I get guys wanting to race me all the time......sometimes I have fun with that but I have the automatic so I pick my races!!! I have not seen you yet around town!! Just a silver one who waves and a blue one who flashes his lights at me. I still stare at my car every time I get out...I am in awe of how beautiful and totally awesome this car is!!!! I hope nobody saw it on the flatbed tow truck yesterday!! First time flood victim, thanks to the hubby who did not believe me when he just backed it out then back into garage!!!! Argh! New plugs and a recall fix and i am good to go! Car is so worth it!!

I was driving my Volvo 850GLT last night, its not a bad looking car, but I felt invisible! Not a single person looked my way. kind of missed it.

Should have raced them - that EVO's gotta be slower weighed down with a gaggle of teens!

An older gentlemen on a Honda motorcycle that was following me home today took the time to slowly pass me on the left and gave me a firm thumbs up.

I can't get rid of this permanent grin! :)

i've been driving around since I came home for break and I definitely got a thumbs up and a few hanging out the window stares. I love the attention, I won't lie!

An SLk with 2 hot chicks inside stopped alongside me at the lights and gave me the thumbs up. I pointed my finger to my torso, "Me?".
They shook their heads and pointed to the car.
The 8 is stealing my thunder. Shucks!

It freaks my wife out to have people constantly staring at us. I don't mind too much, but it is not the reason we bought the car. About fifty people at the driving range(golf) took a look at the car while I was on the course. They must have thought I wasn't looking, but there was an Evo parked three spots down that got nothing. Felt real great. S2000 drivers seem to despise me?

I have been driving my 8 since early October - 5 months now - and I still have the permanent grin when I get in the car, while I drive, and for about 5 minutes after I walk away. I get thumbs up from other drivers and peeps on the street. And DC isn't that friendly a town.

My wife took the car to do an errand last week and when she got back she said she didn't understand why people kept waving at her. She was worried something was wrong. lol.

I just love this car.
