This is how it works i think. It is pre-approved. This means they do a background check of sorts. Sounds legit right? Well, not at all. I think they get your account # and basically charge you a sum to check up on everything. And if anything like an RX8 is going for that cheap, you bet its a solid scam.

Check out his other auction: a Bentley for less than $8k. If it looks like a scam and smells like scam...

Hmm, Ebay seems to have pulled the auction . . .

Most of those are hijacked accounts - people accidently giving up their accounts via spam emails.

John

PS The goal is to glean CC information, etc. from the 'client'.

Yeah, that would explain it. You really have to look over the last few feedback comments left. With this guy, there was nothing besides auctions for golf clubs, and all of a sudden, he has an rx-8 and a bentley up for auction at bargain basement rates.

Seen this before....someone puts a car up on e-bay for some ridiculously low price. Vin usually comes from someone who copied it off a car they saw in a parking lot somewhere and it fits the description of the car they allegedly are auctioning.

Vin # obviously comes back "clean".

You call the guy and he says he's strapped for cash as the reason the car is being sold for cheap.

He asks for a deposit (usually 2-3 thousand dollars) to cover shipping and insuring the car to your doorstep. Upon your inspection of the car, you're supposed to send the rest of the money.

Of course, you send the deposit figuring you'll have his car for just the deposit....what's to loose....right?

Wrong....no car ever shows up at your doorstep and the "owner" suddenly disappears with your deposit.

I personally think you have to be a little crazy to buy any car sight unseen as you do on Ebay. I know you can get some great deals but the risks are too large when your spending tens of thousands on a purchase and the con artists get more savvy every day. I would hate to lose 100 dollars nevermind $15K.

Have to disagree with flatso. Have bought 8 cars for family on eBay - no problems to date. In fact both my Miata and RX-7 are from eBay. There are many great sellers and dealers there.

In fact I have twice bought from the same two dealers - one in Florida (1994 E320 / 1993 XJ6) and in Maryland (1994 Passport / 1993 Prelude).

Carefully done - eBay can be a great place to buy cars - and a great reason to travel all around the country.

I recieved a reply from this "seller", guess what? It is the exact same scammer as the last one a few weeks ago. Same old dead brother overseas story, payment scenario, etc. Only thing changes is the name, this tiem it is Grace Winper.

Unfortunately it must work or they wouldn't keep it up :(

The only time you are asking for it on EBAY is if you make any kind of deposit on a car, without talking to someone and asking detailed questions. You also never pay for a car without seeing it first, and getting full information about who you are buying form , ect ect. Ebay is great, and I have bought a few cars from there. The key is to see car in person, and pay IN PERSON. YES there are scams out there, and people stupid enough to fall for them. I have been around ebay long enough to know what is legit, and if something is even the slghtest bit fishy to me, I ignore it and move on. If something seems to good to be true, it usually is, so if you see any type of great deal like that, and you find yourself interested, stay on your toes, and expect the worst, because odds are you will end up disappointed.
