Hi! All,

Have not posted here since my early interest in the 8 and it was here I started the love affair. Now we have an Owners Club forum in the UK, my visits to this forum have been limited as the healthy and vibrant UK forum takes up most of my time. But all thanks to you guys for starting the ball rolling.

The product I am after finding out about originates from NY and I would appreciate anyone who has the time to find out if the company that produced this item are still in existence.

Have recently calibrated it and it is as accurate today as when it was first made.

Circa 1930 and Manufactured by "The Motometer Co. Inc.' of Long Island City, NY. USA and patented on February 26th. 1924

THE MOTO METER
TIRE TESTER

80 years on and still doing it's job. Says something for the manufacturing processes of the time.

Any information at all that you can glean would be appreciated.

Cheers

Ray

Not sure about the company - if they are still in existence no doubt their manufacturing would be in China some place now - but, if you're quick you could by a mate for it off of ebay

Gee!

Twins. :)

Just like London Transport buses, you wait for ages and then two come along together.

Great spot 'bernieunger'

Check out this link for what appears to be a history of the company. Pretty interesting:

Looking again at those pressure guages - both yours and the one on Ebay - two thoughts. When you go to the local cheapo auto supply store to get a dial pressure guage, most of the time you can't get one with the little pressure release button. That button is critical for people with busted backs and crappy vision like me. 80 years old and better technology.

The second thought - to be air tight on a pressure guage you have to have some rubber parts - some kind of o-ring or gasket - that seal the valve stem to the guage. Also, the pressure release valve has to be tight - and that may or may not have rubber seals in it. 80 years later and it still works???? Whew. I'd like to see anything with rubber gaskets built today work 80 years from now.

Not only does it work, it's accurate. Judged against many that I have used in recent times some can be a lb. or two out.
In addition it reads in lbs. per sq. inch, now that I do understand. Comes with being about the same age as brings on the bad back and crappy vision. :)

Cheers for the imput guys.
