Puppy1 01-28-2003, 03:46 PM Your poll will be inacurate as it allows voters to choose beween overlapping ranges. I'm 40 and could have voted in either the 35-40 or the 40-45. Of course I picked the younger catagory. bwayout 01-28-2003, 06:35 PM Hey, if you'd like to check out an earlier Age group of buyers poll from last September ... check this out. It might be fun to see who's still around from then to now and if the results are any different. http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=575&highlight=age The total then was 114 votes, and the 20-29 group was the majority. Renesis08 01-28-2003, 08:02 PM In my early 20s... Gonna be my first car. :D pmacwill 01-28-2003, 08:38 PM I feel like there should have been a 16-21 22-26 breakdown, since a lot of young people will be buying this car nk_Rx8 01-28-2003, 09:20 PM Man...looking at the results, I wish I had as much disposable income as young people these days. I remember a poll just like this on one of the IS300 forums and it turned out that something like 35% of the owners were under 21 and there were a lot of responses too. tribal azn 01-28-2003, 09:56 PM 17 FnL 01-28-2003, 11:14 PM the big 16 first car Digisan 01-28-2003, 11:23 PM 16 and 17 year olds with an RX-8. Lucky kids  I didn't get a car when I graduated.  I'm slaving myself @ a job to get this car. Not only that it's my first and I'm paying every single penny for it. Oh well... At least you guys are smart and getting an 8 (a real car) instead of adding to the honda/acura rice club. oilman 01-29-2003, 05:12 AM How can anyone under 26 afford the insurance? Rich kids! Oilman Mazda man 01-29-2003, 10:51 AM How can anyone under 26 afford the insurance? Thats what I was thinking! What do reckon it will be oilman? Grp 17-18? tallguylehigh 01-29-2003, 11:40 AM How can anyone under 26 afford the insurance? Why because I am purchasing a mature, naturally aspirated, 4 door sports sedan, thats why. :o Not only has Mazda created an amazing car, but they mave have created some kind of insurance loophole that defies all boundaries. MUAHAHAHAHA!!! And so on... ironqqq 01-29-2003, 02:21 PM I'm 25. I pay approx $700 a month for rent and utils (share an apt). When I get the RX-8, and with a $10k downpayment, I'm estimating about $370 payment monthly $180 insurance $150 gas, 6 tanks @ 13 gals/tank @ $1.90/gal (21600 miles/year) $58 a month for tires, (estimate 25k miles life for tires @ $200/tire, 1800 miles/month) $708-758 total per month. this means I will have no savings for about 5 years. that's mor than I pay for rent! I'm trying to reduce my driving by carpooling, reducing cutting my commute from from 9000 miles a year to 4500 miles a year. That will bring my yearly milage to about 20-26k. Weekend driving kills. I definitely will not be a home owner by the time I'm 30. oilman 01-29-2003, 03:16 PM I've read at least 17 Mazda Man, ouch and I'm 42 and clean forever!! Cheers Oilman velociti 01-29-2003, 04:12 PM I'm 17 and I attend a well to do private school, where almost none of the kids put a penny down for their cars, which are given to them by their parents. Most are SUV's or older sedans, but there are a few who were given, or mostly given, high performance sports cars. A kid who graduated last year had a Toyota 4Runner, which he riced out. One of my friends ended up being given a '97 6-speed Supra TT, so the kid with the 4Runner ended up talking to his dad, since up to that point he had the "best"(read: worst) car, because he needs to be the best . His dad ended up buying his son an FD in decent condition; his second car mind you, at 18. My friend with the Supra has since modified it with his father's money, and it is making somewhere around 400rwhp. My best friend ended up being bought a '99 M3 in really good condition, though he did put out $8,000 of his own money. The worst instance, by far, is an arrogant kid in the grade below me whose father is buying him a Brand New BMW M3. I was at a total loss of words when he told me what he was being bought, and I was about to go on a bitter rant until I realized that it simply wasn't worth it. Oh well. I'm a proponent of the way I was brought up, where if you want something, earn the money and buy it yourself. Eh. Ouch... must be a SoCal thing then.. Just remember, there is a big world outside So California with people of different tastes.. :) We do have a share of rice here too... :( Just not as much. bwayout 01-29-2003, 08:28 PM Originally posted by Renesis08 If you live in SoCal, It's hard to find a civic that is NOT riced out. (especially around the Long Beach and Torrance areas) ... not that there's any thing wrong with that ... ;) it's their money after all ... Hey, in my day, we had the Plymouth Super Bird and the Charger Daytona ... :D Neddie Seagoon 01-29-2003, 08:57 PM Guys, You are young and your reflexes fast - Please drive with your good judgement turned fully on. I've scraped up, hosed out, way too many kids who were given cars that go fast. DreamWarrior 02-11-2003, 02:59 PM I hate parents who give their kids expensive cars!!! Earn it, you'll respect it a lot more. Having mommy and daddy buy it for you and showing it off makes you worth a punch in the face as far as I'm concerned, and while I'm at it I'd like to hit your parents for not teaching you the value of earning something yourself. I know a girl who's dad bought her three Jetta's in a one year period because she kept smashing them up; moron, both of them! </flame> As for me, I'm 23, this will be my...fourth car. I've bought and paid for, on MY OWN, an '88 Cougar, a '98 Firebird, a '96 Camaro Z28 (when I smashed the Firebird in the rain because of a blowout :( ), and now hopefully an RX-8. Yes, insurance sucks, I'll be paying about $500 a month for it; OUCH!!! It'll be nice to have a new car instead of buying used for a change...but at $650-670 a month for payments :( (damn equity loss on the Camaro) I really have to want it to get it this time around. I'd be doing so much better right now if I didn't have to pay insurance out the butt :(. Damn, I thought my payment of $425 was bad... damn dude... GTRay 11-05-2003, 08:22 PM Guess i can jump in here and say that my GF and i just bought an 8 last month. I'm 23, she's 26. We live together and this is our first major purchase together. Since she supplied the majority of funds for the deposit and we traded in her car (93... Ford Escort - no love lost there) it was rightfully titled in her name. The added bonus of it being titled in her name is that, well, insurance is a HELL of a lot cheaper - raised her premiums by $40 a YEAR! Hope to add the new 7 to the stable in a few years! mikeb 11-05-2003, 08:26 PM congrats and welcome post some pics of the new ride Lufa 11-05-2003, 10:45 PM My wife and I are a couple of 30 year old DINKS too. |
