Hey Rotorheads,

For those of you that came out on August 3rd thank you! We had 4 or 5 rotaries at Blackhawk, which is a great course for the RX-8 (I especially love the back half of the course!).

On Sunday October 9th we will be having our last event of the season. A mini-track day nestled in the middle of an actual SCCA race day. Not only to you get into see the races, but you'll actually get to be ON the track as well with your RX-8. As always, we will have quality instructors (many of them racers there for the weekend). And this is all for $50!! Add $15 for SCCA weekend membership for non-members. That's about the cheapest you find to get on a track, so no more excuses about costs holding you back! Get that 8 on the track where it belongs!!

Here is the registration link:

See you there!

Track time will be limited (I think two 15 minute sessions), and is not a race but there will be racing that day to observe. You will be on the track with other cars, but not competing. Follow the link for a great writeup on prepping your car. If your car is running well, and you have good brakes (with a recent brake fluid flush in the last 6 months is ideal) and adequate tire tread then you should be in good shape.

I got an SA 2010 rated open faced helmet for a good price at http://www.soloperformance.com/. You only need M rated for our events (SCCA), but I would get an SA rated since many other track clubs require that. We also will have loaner helmets available, FYI.

I use Super Blue brake fluid: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/accessoryDetail.jsp?ID=21. You'd have to check the RX8 manual or the forums for the DOT number, I dont' recall. Having the brake lines free of air bubbles is more important than the specific fluid for these short sessions (assuming it's approved fluid for the RX-8).

I run my Dunlop Star Specs at about 40-45 PSI, they are 245/40/18s. If it's your first time on track then the stock setting (32PSI) should be fine, or maybe a bit higher like 35 PSI.

Hope that helps. Are you registered yet!!?? :)

Loaner helmets are FREE!! Although my vote is to change that so we can affort to buy NEW helmets down the road....
I think we want to start registration at 8:30 or something like that. Blackhawk is funny cuz all the buildings are INSIDE the track, and there will be races going in the AM, so you have to wait for a break to get "inside". We should have a schedule on the website (www.scca-chicago.org). A detailed schedule will be emailed to all registered.
