View Full Version : Audio delayed shutoff?
S3/P3/E2 03-03-2004, 05:00 PM Ok, so I've had mine for about 2 months now and have noticed something odd. I've made an attempt to find it either in the manual and on the boards here but have obviously failed. Is there a delay in the audio shutting off (similar to the amount of time allowed to close windows and the sunroof) when shutting the car off? Sometimes my car does it...sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it continues to play for about 10 secs even after I've removed the key and locked and closed the driver's door. Has anyone else either A. experienced this or B. know where the documentation is that covers it? Today I actually got back in the car and the radio came on as I put the key in the ignition (the key hadn't been turned yet). Sound like a Ghostbusters issue?
S3/P3/E2 03-04-2004, 12:54 PM Anybody? I'm not asking anyone to solve a problem - just shed a little light. :)
eccles 03-04-2004, 01:06 PM I never experienced that. Methinks your car is posessed.
Astor 03-04-2004, 01:27 PM Never had it happen. Does your stereo contain any aftermarket additions?
S3/P3/E2 03-04-2004, 01:43 PM Nope - all as it came from the factory. It's not like I'm annoyed by it, but more just puzzled by the whole matter. It's a bit bizarre...
Astor 03-04-2004, 02:09 PM Does your car happen to be named Christine?
Omicron 03-04-2004, 02:19 PM Wierd. Do the head rests spin around 360 degrees all on their own? ;)
and headlights all of a sudden start flashing and the horn beeping...but not in any kind of rhythmical fashion...almost like it is 'speaking'...."They're heeeeeeerrreee!!"
mikeb 03-04-2004, 05:05 PM you guys are funny
have the dealer check it out
Rambot958 03-04-2004, 05:09 PM My 8 (stock w/ Kenwood WooX sub) does the same thing. You are not alone. I actually noticed it after I put in the sub. I don't remember it doing this before hand. Mine stays on for about 3-5 seconds after the key is removed. I think that's pretty strange too.
S3/P3/E2 03-04-2004, 08:36 PM Yeah, and the strangest part of it all is that it's not consistent. I've tried different variations on shutdown (prior to seatbelt release, after release, passenger, no passenger, etc.). It's def. something I'll bring up at the 5k mark (couple weeks) when I get the rest of the recall items done, but in the meantime it's just bizarre. Other than that, I've had nothing abnormal happen since I bought it. :)
seikx8 03-04-2004, 11:16 PM I've also seen this behavior of delay; there is a few seconds delay after the key is switch off, ECU still seeing power. I happened to see this behavior when I installed my eManage and was wondering why my eManage still have power when the key was off.
Look normal to me. When the key is off without opening any door, there will be power to the door so you can roll up the window without key on. Once the door open, power is cut; hence, key need to be on for you to roll up or down the window.
It's strange, but I have no problem with that.

Yeah, but the catch is that it doesn't necessarily quit once you open the door. In fact, it sometimes continues to play for another 5-10 secs after I've already gotten out of the car, locked the door, and closed it (with the radio still playing as I walk off albeit not for long). I knew about the delay for windows/sunroof, but I don't think it includes the radio side.
Just looking to see if anyone had run into the same thing (like Rambot has).
iceman32crx 05-01-2004, 10:15 PM I've experienced that also..(not the key one though)..it all started to happen after i plugged a power inverter into the accessory port to run my laptop. now it does it sometime..and sometimes it doesn't..even with that thing not installed anymore. did you install or do anything to the elec. system such as what i did? might have been that..
rx8pilot 05-01-2004, 10:19 PM Damn!! i'm tired of this crud..replying to posts and finding out that it is logging me in as someone else.. anyways.. this is me..i just replied as iceman32crx somehow.. ugh.. sorry iceman..don't know how that happened
Unser 05-02-2004, 01:40 PM Hey, if that car is posessed, I want it too !!! I'd love for the radio to turn on when I disarm with the remote and keep playing until I arm it again.... I sooooo want that... any ideas Overload?
