as the title suggested

anyone compared the specs to the GT3 in the Play Station game?

displacement is 649x2 =1298cc
but the power to weight ratio is 4.something
Hp is probably the J-Spec probably :9
torque: 24.7ft/lb (btw, how is torque calculated in a rotory? seems awefully low)

anyway, for those who have actually driven the car, pls give impression of the car's handling in the game, i didn't mod mine, trying to get a feel of how the stock form runs :D

I won the car and then sold it because, well, it wasn't blindingly fast like most of the other cars I had. I think I'm going to go find out which race you need to win in order to get it......and get it. About the torque thing, the torque numbers are screwed up across the game, it's really weird, especially in modified vehicles.

first Terrence, look at the year that the game was made in: 2001.
to produce a game for release in 2001, you need the information well before that date.
basically, the RX-8 in GT3 is of the first prototype concept, with a lot of speculation in the specifications of the car: it's too light, too powerful, the gears ratios were anyones guess back then, and the suspension was a total shot in the dark for the game designers. i have no idea why they said that the displacement is 1298 rather than the normal 1308cc's that the RENESIS has always been (unless you're remembering it wrong... i didn't check myself).
basically, half of that car is just completely guess work. but, given how much we can change in that game, i'd suggest buying the racing tranny and copying as closely as you can (you can't always emulate real life) the cog setup, which is posted all over the place on this site. also, if and when we find out the ride hieght, spring ratings, toe, and camber settings you could get the 100% adustable suspension and make it really, really close to reality (dampers are easy to set).

it's too bad that we can't add wieght, and correct the engine, but anyhoo, it drives pretty good, it's fairly quick (nearly as quick as an FD 'round some of the momentum circuits like Midfield, which is pretty close to what it'd be like in reality), and it easily outruns the Z Concept in every single way you can think of, except maybe the 1320.

oh, a few general things about GT3, torque, and rotaries.

basically, the torque converted toque numbers (from Nm or whatever they used and converted to Imperial ft*lbs) are nearly infallibly totally off. look at like the huge Mercedes V12s the Zonda's have in the back, it says they have like 15 or something... i dont' understand, they must have a fraction upside down... but whatever.
also, these peak torque numbers tell you nothin' about how well the car is going to run, but peak horsepower will give you a small glimpse of its capability on the front straight, while mass and downforce is still the overall best measure of performance (ie: F1 car).

torque on a rotary is measured the same way as any other engine.
"how is that?" you're askin'?? it's measured on a chassis dyno on the flywheel, or on a wheel dyno (guess where) on the front/rear/all wheels. if you're askin' me "how do we measure the stroke of the rotary?", that's different: it's the radius from the centre of rotation of the output shaft to the centre of the eccentric lobe, which is 15mm as Buger found out ;)

y'know what i just thought of?? havin' our own simulated drive in the 8 'round Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca!! :D ahahahaa...

anyhoo, here's the link with the gear ratios:here!! scroll down (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=931&perpage=20&pagenumber=6)

if i remember right, it's
1st = 3.760
2nd = 2.269
3rd = 1.539
4th = 1.187
5th = 1.000
6th = 0.843
Final = 4.444

anyhoo, as Derrick (the 3-rotor FD guy who actually got to go) suggested, i left it in 3rd gear only for a few laps, and it was pretty good... keep in mind that this GT3 version of the prototype RX-8 is accelerating much quicker than the production one will, and probably has slightly different handling characteristics, although it does emulate well the tendancies Derrick and Berny (from www.rotarynews.com) were talkin' about...
set your TCS to like 8 or something, i guess, and Stability control to 5 - 8 i suppose, to try and get a feel for how the car would behave in reality with these systems on... the reason i suggest a lower setting is they're reportedly unintrusive for the most part, but still (apparently) save your ass when it needs saving... i haven't tried driving the car with the systems on, 'cause i hate them, but that's just me. try it out. :)
happy gamin' everyone :)

Is mazda 787B in the GT3 fast?

yup. comparing all the stock LMP cars, the 787B is the fastest, by a lot.

I know that I've posted this in just about every post, but here it is again on the topic of GT3.

no, that's a different version of gran turismo 3, it's like gran turism 3.5 or something that came out way later. the original gt3 a-spec had the rx-8 design and engineer model...the one with the louvered hood and came after the rx-evolv

That photo is from the Japanise Tokyo Car Show release of the Grand Turismo. It was released last year some time only in Japan. Eventually when they release a new version here in the U.S. You will be able to drive all those cars again. Along with a Production version of the RX-8.

IMHO the RX-8 in GT3 was based only on guestimates - in GT Geneva/Tokyo (of which I am the proud owner) the RX-8 is (as much as I can remember) much closer to the production model...
It definitely has the production model hood!

BTW: I wouldn't be at all surprised if the first place we saw a 4th gen RX-7 would be in Gran Turismo 4 - which Sony will probably try to have out by December... Just in time for Christmas Shopping!

Just checked up on the GT Tokyo/Geneva thingy. Actually, the RX-8 has been put at 246hp - that's very close to the production model - and interestingly it has the real colour options (save for the Titanium)... So maybe Sony were treated to a bit of insider information? Anyway, this game is pretty similar to the arcade part of GT3, save for the upgraded graphics and licenses, so technical specs are minimal, but it feels and looks better than GT3. Just FYI.

Cheers
